NFC East
Cowboys — Most Overrated Fantasy Player: Dalton Schultz, TE
Dalton Schultz is the single worst player you can draft at ADP right now.
He’ll be a fine fantasy player and likely finish as a top-10 TE, but there is absolutely no reason he should be going multiple rounds ahead of his peers.
Giants — Most Overrated Fantasy Player: Daniel Jones, QB
The Giants really don’t have an overrated player, if we’re being honest. Most players have a fair ADP, Daniel Jones included, but I’d still say he’s the most overrated of the Giants players given how much the fantasy community (outside of me) seems to love him.
Yeah, he has some good upside. He’ll probably score over 30 points a few times. That makes him more enticing in best ball leagues when you don’t have to guess when he’ll be good.
He was No. 18 in PPG last year and has finished outside the top 20 in total points scored all three years of his career. Granted, he hasn’t played a full season, but that’s noteworthy too.
Eagles — Most Overrated Fantasy Player: Miles Sanders, RB
Miles Sanders, who scored 0 TDs last year despite playing on the run-heaviest team in the NFL (49.9% run rate), now has to deal with an offense that will pass more with the addition of A.J. Brown. He also still has Jalen Hurts there to steal valuable goal-line carries, and Kenneth Gainwell is turning heads in training camp.
Commanders — Most Overrated Fantasy Player: Antonio Gibson, RB
Antonio Gibson has been in a free-fall. He fumbled in the team’s preseason opener, while rookie Brian Robinson — in whom the Commanders spent a Day 2 pick — impressed and has been a fast-riser.
The team also retained J.D. McKissic, so more passing work for Gibson is out the door. Gibson has to be one of the most nerve-inducing RB2s you can roster right now.
NFC West
Rams — Most Overrated Fantasy Player: Allen Robinson, WR
Allen Robinson has a current ADP of WR18 right now, but five of seven FTN rankers have him outside of our top 20. He WR18 price tag is betting on Robinson not being dust. It requires a leap of faith considering how bad Robinson was last year (WR81 overall with zero weeks as a top-24 WR).
49ers — Most Overrated Fantasy Player: Deebo Samuel, WR
Deebo Samuel was last year’s fantasy breakout star, but he’s the leading candidate for TD regression and may even lose some of his valuable rushing work to new dual-threat QB Trey Lance. Over the second half of last season, Samuel was third on the 49ers in targets, receptions, yards, and receiving TDs. I’m not interested in spending a second-round pick on a player who might be his team’s No. 3 target option.
Cardinals — Most Overrated Fantasy Player: Kyler Murray, QB
Kyler Murray is not bad, obviously, but with DeAndre Hopkins out for six games, James Conner back to steal goal-line carries, and Christian Kirk gone, there are enough question marks here to make me nervous in Round 5. He finished as a top-12 QB in just three of his final seven games last year.
Seahawks — Most Overrated Fantasy Player: Kenneth Walker, RB
Kenneth Walker’s clearest path to relevancy this year is for Rashaad Penny to be bad. Granted, that seems very possible, but Walker only goes a few picks after Penny in ADP, and this offense will certainly not be good enough to support two RBs. Maybe not even one.
NFC North
Packers — Most Overrated Fantasy Player: Romeo Doubs, WR
All Packers players are fairly priced. I think they are all actually underpriced as the market reacted too violently to Davante Adams leaving. Nonetheless, I have to choose someone, so I’ll highlight Romeo Doubs as the most overrated since he has started to go ahead of early Round 2 pick WR Christian Watson in fantasy drafts.
Vikings — Most Overrated Fantasy Player: Adam Thielen, WR
Adam Thielen is a TD machine, but that’s really all he is. And that won’t last forever. With Justin Jefferson set to enter his prime, the return of Irv Smith at TE, and the emergence of K.J. Osborn as a viable deep and red-zone threat in his own right, the Vikings might not be as reliant on Thielen as they have been. He’s also 32 when the season starts and has not played a full season in 2018.
Lions — Most Overrated Fantasy Player: Jamaal Williams, RB
The Lions don’t have a true overrated fantasy player. Jamaal Williams is the “most” overrated of the bunch, but he’s also RB50, so it’s not like he’d be a costly mistake if he didn’t pan out. But the real reason he’s not the best pick is because his upside isn’t incredible if D’Andre Swift misses time. He doesn’t just step into a 20-plus touch role like James Conner did when Chase Edmonds went out for the Cardinals.
Bears — Most Overrated Fantasy Player: David Montgomery, RB
The Bears are yet another team that don’t have any glaring overrated players at ADP. They are all so cheap. But David Montgomery gets the nod here as he has not had the best camp (he spent some time on special teams) and has been injured. Khalil Herbert is an impressive backup, and rumors are there will be more of a timeshare than we’ve seen in recent years. Montgomery is slipping into flex territory.
NFC South
Buccaneers — Most Overrated Fantasy Player: Mike Evans, WR
Mike Evans is amazing and will be amazing. But I think we’re drafting him at his ceiling (WR8).
Over the last five years, he has finished WR17, WR9, WR15, WR13, WR9. Chris Godwin should miss no time and the team added Julio Jones to fill the hole left by Antonio Brown.
Panthers — Most Overrated Fantasy Player: Chuba Hubbard, RB
The Panthers only have two players being drafted in the top-150 (Christian McCaffrey and DJ Moore). Neither of those players is overrated, so we’re going all the way to the end of the draft to call out Chuba Hubbard, who has no business being drafted. If CMC goes down, D’Onta Foreman is the back you want.
Saints — Most Overrated Fantasy Player: Chris Olave, WR
Chris Olave is an exciting player, but with Michael Thomas back, Alvin Kamara unlikely to be suspended, and Jarvis Landry in town, it might be slim pickings for the rookie. Remember, Jameis Winston only threw the ball an astonishingly low 23 times per game last year.
Falcons — Most Overrated Fantasy Player: Drake London, WR
The Falcons really do not have anybody being drafted high, but Drake London is coming off the board as a tail-end WR3 when it feels more realistic to expect him to be a bench player for your squad. The Falcons have the lowest win-total in the NFL and a potential clown show at QB with Marcus Mariota and rookie Desmond Ridder. Kyle Pitts is the true WR1 on this team. London is not crazy overrated, but he is by far the most expensive Falcons player outside of Pitts.
