The Houston Texans announced on Friday that they signed free-agent wide receiver Kearis Jackson and offensive guard Jerome Carvin to Reserve/Futures deals. Jackson, 25, was a former undrafted free agent out of Georgia who made his NFL debut in 2023 with the Tennessee Titans. He only appeared in two games and only appeared on special teams, returning six punts for 48 yards. Jackson was with the New York Giants' practice squad this year but wasn't active for any regular-season games. He will now join the Texans this offseason and hope to stick through training camp this summer as a return specialist. Carvin, 24, worked out for Houston back in October of 2023 but will now join the team. The Tennessee alumni has never appeared in an NFL game.
The Houston Texans announced on Wednesday that they signed wide receivers Xavier Johnson and Johnny Johnson III, guard Tremayne Anchrum Jr., cornerbacks Anthony Averett and Gregory Junior, defensive end Solomon Byrd, running backs Jawhar Jordan and J.J. Taylor, defensive tackle Jayden Peevy, quarterback Kedon Slovis and safety Russ Yeast to Reserve/Futures deals. Johnson signed with the Buffalo Bills in free agency last offseason but was cut before the start of the regular season before latching on with Houston's practice squad in 2024. The 25-year-old Cincinnati native was never elevated to the Texans' active 53-man roster during the regular season and has yet to make his debut in the NFL. Johnson will now continue his development in Houston and will hope to make the active roster out of training camp this summer.
Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said that it's too early to place a timetable on whether wide receiver Tank Dell (knee) will be able to play in 2025. Ryans won't speculate on whether the Texans will be searching for another receiver this offseason because of Dell's serious injury. In the Dec. 21 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, the 25-year-old second-year wideout tore his ACL, MCL and LCL, dislocated his knee and suffered damage to his meniscus. He underwent the first of multiple surgeries last week, and it's very possible that he won't be able to play at all in the 2025 regular season. If Dell makes it back, he also might never be the same on the football field for the Texans as an explosive downfield threat in the passing attack. We should know more about his status for next season once training camp rolls around. Dell finished 2024 with 51 catches (81 targets) for 667 yards and three TDs in 14 games.
