This news doesn't mean much for fantasy football, as it has become clear this season that Gibson isn't going to be a dependable option for as long as Rhamondre Stevenson is healthy. Averaging just 29.6 rushing yards and 14.9 receiving yards per game this season, Gibson lacks fantasy appeal.

He has yet to clear 48% of the snaps and has played 17% and 19% of the snaps over the last two weeks respectively. The Patriots have clearly turned back to Rhamondre Stevenson as a true feature back. Given how bad the offense is, Gibson is not even worth a roster spot in fantasy. As such, this news is relatively inconsequential to the status of any relevant Patriots players for fantasy in Week 9.

He also converted his lone target into a nine-yard reception. This was easily Gibson's quietest game of the season, and while part of the blame can be placed on the game script, it's also worth noting that he was third in the pecking order on Sunday. He finished Week 7 with just 10 snaps, which was less than JaMycal Hasty's 20 and Rhamondre Stevenson's 30. It's unclear whether this trend is here to stay, but it should certainly have fantasy managers concerned heading into Week 8 against the New York Jets. Gibson can be benched or dropped in fantasy football going forward.
