New Orleans Saints
The Saints are the favorites to win a very weak NFC South division in 2023. They upgraded at the quarterback position by bringing in Derek Carr in the offseason. They have a plethora of skill positions for him to utilize. Alvin Kamara has avoided the worst-case scenario in his court situation, but the league may still step in to suspend him for a few games. The addition of Jamaal Williams should help the Saints weather the storm in a division where they are not going to need to be great to have a chance to win. The Saints finished 7-10 in 2022, so they will need to be better to take it down.
Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons also finished last season at 7-10. They were a heavy-running team and drafted Bijan Robinson, the consensus No. 1 running back prospect out of college. They will likely be handing the keys to the offense over to Desmond Ridder, although the ground game will continue to be heavily featured. The Falcons have the second-shortest odds to win the division. While that is good news, this remains a very weak division, and the Falcons are really not a top-tier NFL team.
Carolina Panthers
The Panthers are the third betting choice to win the NFC South in 2023. They also finished with a 7-10 record last season, tied with the Saints and the Falcons. Carolina moved on from Christian McCaffrey last year and also traded away DJ Moore this offseason. That is a massive amount of production lost on the offense from the past few years. They have a rookie QB, an influx of skill position players and an improving defense to work around. They are likely a few years and a few pieces away from making any real noise.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the longest shot on the board to win the NFC South in 2023. Tom Brady is gone, and Leonard Fournette went with him. The receivers are still in Tampa, which is a major asset for Baker Mayfield. Rachaad White will be taking over in the backfield. Tampa has some skill position players, but they will need a step forward out of Mayfield in order to gel and compete in 2023. This is a weak division, and the Bucs are the defending division champs with a 8-9 record from last season.
2023 NFC South Division Winner Odds Movement
- July 13, 2023: The Saints feel a bit underpriced to win this division. It is not that they are very good, but the rest of the division is pretty bad. The odds have drifted up a bit from where they opened, and I cannot imagine them going off as plus-money favorites when the season kicks off. The other teams all have big holes to fill, and the Saints seem to have just minor problems. They are the best house on a bad block, but that house still deserves a better price.
