Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions have the shortest odds to win the NFC North. This is a very competitive division, as all four teams are currently sitting at plus money with no one longer than 5-1. The Lions finished last season with a 9-8 record, four games behind the 13-4 Vikings who ended up as the division winners. The Lions did hold an NFC North-best 5-1 record against their division opponents in 2022, which is part of the reason they are picked to turn the tables on the Vikings.

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings won the division with a 13-4 record, finishing as one of the best teams in the NFC in 2022. The 3-1 price on them to repeat as division champions feels a bit too generous. The Lions finished the season well, but a four-game swing is a lot to ask. If you are looking for some value, backing the defending champ against the upstart team looking to take them down is not a crazy proposition at this price.

Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears finished a dreadful 3-14 last season. They addressed their biggest need at WR and have a young, improving QB. The offense is expected to be much improved, but they are still well behind the top two teams in terms of their chance to really win the division.

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers are in transition. They are breaking in a new quarterback this year in Jordan Love after Trading Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets. Love sat behind Rodgers, just as Rodgers did behind Favre. How well they transition and how quickly they gel is anybody’s guess. It would not shock me if they finished last in the division or fought for a playoff spot. I do think winning it is tougher to justify, but they are about 5-1.

2023 NFC North Division Winner Odds Movement

July 9, 2023: This is one of the most up-in-the-air divisions in football according to the betting odds. The Lions and Vikings opened closer in odds, but we have seen that spread between the top two choices widen as the season gets closer to kick off. I would not be shocked to see that spread shrink a bit before the first game. That means you should take the Vikings now before they drop and wait a bit on the Lions as their price may creep up.
