The 2023 NFL Comeback Player Odds are open for betting. Unsurprisingly, the favorite is Buffalo’s Damar Hamlin. Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest early in a much-anticipated Bills/Bengals game late last season. He has been medically cleared to resume football activities and is a massive favorite to take home this award. Other notable players include 2021 WR Triple Crown winner Cooper Kupp, second-year RB Breece Hall, and a slew of QB options such as Tua Tagovailoa, Matthew Stafford and Russell Wilson.
FTN Bets is here to guide you through the latest odds, news, and how to think through your NFL Comeback Player of the Year odds bets.
NFL Comeback Player of the Year Odds
Here are the current betting favorites to win the 2023 Comeback Player of the Year Award, along with the sportsbooks offering their odds:
- Damar Hamlin (-300, FanDuel Sportsbook)
- Tua Tagovailoa (+2500, FanDuel Sportsbook)
- Cooper Kupp (+2500, DraftKings Sportsbook)
- Lamar Jackson (+2500, DraftKings Sportsbook)
Damar Hamlin is a massive early favorite to win the 2023-2024 Comeback Player of the Year award at -300. That means a $100 bet will pay out $133 for a profit of $33. These odds give Hamlin a 75% chance of winning Comeback Player of the Year.

Other Notable Bets to Consider
- Two years ago, Cooper Kupp had one of the greatest seasons in the history of the wide receiver position. He caught 145 balls for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns. Last year he was averaging over 8 catches per game for over 90 yards before he was injured. He is currently 25-1 and could easily end up being the Comeback Player of the Year.
- Tua Tagovailoa threw for 3,500 yards and 25 touchdowns in just 13 games last season. He has some of the best receiving weapons in the NFL and could flirt with 5,000 passing yards and 35 touchdowns this season. Numbers like that might even be able to put him in the MVP conversation. I do not think he would win it, but at 25-1 he may end up with a Comeback Player of the Year as a consolation prize.
- Breece Hall of the New York Jets was electric for a few weeks in his rookie season before suffering an injury. He started carrying a bigger load in Week 4 against the Steelers. From that point on, he was a dominant, productive workhorse back. He had 42 carries for 285 yards and 3 touchdowns in 9 quarters of football as the main guy. That doesn’t include the 79-yard catch-and-run play he had against the Dolphins that is always playing on his highlight reel. A healthy Hall could rack up a 1,250-yard season and flirt with double-digit touchdowns at a nice 25-1 value.
NFL Comeback Player of the Year Movement in 2023
- June 15, 2023: The odds on Damar Hamlin are artificially low. The Comeback Player of the Year award favorite does deserve to be a short price; I just do not think he deserves to be a 75-85% favorite. He opened at -500, which is why the secondary choices are all in the 20-1 range or higher. I understand the story behind Hamlin’s return and he is the likeliest winner, but his artificially low odds makes a few other options very good values at 25-1 or higher. We have already seen movement on some of these secondary players down to 20-1. I would think that trend continues for some of the options already mentioned.
History of NFL DROY Winners
Here are the last nine NFL OROY winners:
Year | Player | Position | Team |
2014 | Rob Gronkowski | TE | New England Patriots |
2015 | Eric Berry | S | Kansas City Chiefs |
2016 | Jordy Nelson | WR | Green Bay Packers |
2017 | Cooper Kupp | WR | Los Angeles Rams |
2018 | Andrew Luck | QB | Indianapolis Colts |
2019 | Ryan Tannehill | QB | Tennessee Titans |
2020 | Alex Smith | QB | Washington Football Team |
2021 | Joe Burrow | QB | Cincinnati Bengals |
2022 | Geno Smith | QB | Seattle Seahawks |
Eight of the last nine winners have been on the offensive side of the football. The last five winners have all been quarterbacks. That is an interesting fact to note with guys like Tua Tagovailoa, Russell Wilson and Matthew Stafford all at 25-1 or higher. WR options took down two, a pass-catching TE has one, and Eric Berry of the Chiefs was the last defensive player to win. When you view the odds board through this lens, it really makes you think twice about the insanely low payout Damar Hamlin would yield, even if he does win.
