Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez (hand) is scheduled to take some flips in the batting cages at spring training on Tuesday, and things are moving in a good direction. Rodriguez is day-to-day with some inflammation in his left hand. It's nothing serious, but the Mariners aren't going to take any chances with one of the best overall players in the game early in spring training. Depending on how he feels, the 23-year-old could return to Cactus League play later this week, and he should be totally fine by Opening Day. J-Rod made a statement in his sophomore season in 2023 and was an All-Star for the second straight year to begin his MLB career. As a true five-category contributor, he is a top-five fantasy asset in all formats.

Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson said that third baseman Alec Bohm (neck) is expected to make his Grapefruit League debut on Wednesday against the Atlanta Braves. Bohm has had a neck issue in camp the last few days, but he's good to go now and will start playing in spring games this week. The Phillies were being cautious with the 27-year-old when they held him out of games this past weekend. He will be ready for Opening Day at the end of March, barring any sort of setback once he begins playing in games. Bohm hit .274/.327/.437 with a career-high 20 home runs, 97 RBI and four stolen bases in 145 games in 2023 in his fourth year in the big leagues. He was a solid run producer for the Phils and fantasy managers, but it's fair to wonder how much more Bohm can actually improve, especially if he hits near the bottom of the batting order.

Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson said that first baseman Bryce Harper and catcher J.T. Realmuto are expected to make their Grapefruit League debuts on Wednesday against the Atlanta Braves. Harper and Realmuto are just getting a few days in camp to ramp up. Harper is making the full-time transition from the outfield to first base in 2024, but it's unclear if he'll be eased in as the designated hitter early in spring games. The 31-year-old former MVP got a late start to last season while recovering from Tommy John surgery in 2022 but finished with a strong .293/.401/.499 slash line with a .900 OPS, 21 home runs, 72 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 126 games. Harper is no longer eligible in the outfield for fantasy managers, but with him ready to go to start the 2024 season, he should be viewed as a top-five fantasy first baseman in 2024.

Free-agent left-hander Blake Snell and the New York Yankees continue to discuss potential scenarios, but so far it's just talk without much progress. Snell would give the Yankees both reigning Cy Young winners and make them the clear favorite in the American League. However, any deal for Snell would also trigger a 110 percent tax, meaning the move would cost more than double his salary. The Yankees continue to keep the lines of communication open with Snell, but after talking on Monday, the two sides don't appear to be any closer to a deal. One Yankees person characterized the chances for a deal as extremely low. The 31-year-old Snell is going to cost $30 million a year, so it's unclear how many other teams remain in the market for him. So far, the Yankees have made the only known public offer to Snell -- for five years, although they are believed to be willing to go six years at close to $28 million per year.

Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner saw his first game action of the spring on Sunday in a 4-0 Grapefruit League win over the New York Yankees. The 2x All-Star went 0-for-2 with a walk but did not steal a bag or come around to score after getting on base. Last season, Turner got off to a slow start but eventually was able to turn things around during his first season in Philly. The former NL batting champ slashed .247/.299/.389 in the first half with a .297 WOBA and 84 wRC+, but in the second half it was .292/.348/.554 with a .381 WOBA and 140 wRC+, so he'll look to carry that momentum into 2024. Combined with his ability to steal bases, he goes off draft boards late in the first round (NFBC ADP of 12). RotoBaller ranks him at 14, however, if he can outperform his ATC projection of 28 stolen bases (he had 30 in '23), then he could pay off his high price tag.
