This matchup between BYU and Wisconsin has all the makings of a coin-flip, which makes the +1.5 on BYU a valuable bet in the second round. Our FTN model actually has BYU winning this game outright—albeit by less than a point—so getting points with the Cougars offers immediate value in a tightly projected game. BYU enters this contest red-hot, going 9-1 over their last 10 games while averaging 83.8 points and shooting nearly 49% from the field. They’re one of the most balanced offensive teams left in the field, with Richie Saunders, Trevin Knell, and Keba Keita giving them consistent scoring and rebounding across the board.

Wisconsin has the higher seed and the reputation, but they’ve averaged just 74.3 points over their last 10 and shot just 42% during that stretch. They’ve also struggled in close games, going just 3-2 in contests decided by four points or less. While the Badgers rely heavily on John Tonje and John Blackwell to create offense, BYU’s depth and tempo can pose serious problems for a Wisconsin defense that’s about to face a much faster-paced, more efficient attack than they’re used to seeing in Big Ten play. With BYU boasting a +10.6 scoring margin and dominating the glass, don’t be surprised if the Cougars not only cover, but punch their ticket to the Sweet 16.
