Washington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams picked up his first stolen base of the spring in Monday's 6-3 Grapefruit League loss to the Mets. The 23-year-old is 2-for-5 with two singles in his first games of spring action. The former first-round pick delivered a power-speed combination in 2023, slashing .245/.300/.412 with 18 home runs, 83 runs scored, 64 RBI, and 47 stolen bases in 614 plate appearances. The Nationals aren't the best lineup to hit in for counting stats, but the allure of Abrams' HR and SB totals with the hope for some batting average regression have him as a higher-end fantasy pick heading into 2024.

St. Louis Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Monday that there is no firm timetable for when middle infielder/outfielder Tommy Edman (wrist) will begin playing in Grapefruit League games. The 28-year-old had offseason surgery on his right wrist and is now hitting off a tee and with soft toss from coaches. The switch-hitter is progressing quicker hitting from the right side of the plate. Like the Cardinals overall, Edman had a down 2023, slashing .248/.307/.399 with 13 home runs, 69 runs scored, 47 RBI, and 27 stolen bases in 528 plate appearances. While Edman provides plenty of speed and could benefit from a lineup bounce back, his lack of power may be dinged further as he returns from his wrist injury. Fantasy managers should keep an eye out for further updates over the coming weeks.

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Simeon Woods Richardson turned in a strong spring debut Monday, pitching a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout of Juan Soto in a 9-2 Grapefruit League win over the Yankees. The 23-year-old said that he has been working on altering his arm angle this off-season, bringing his delivery down from directly over the top. Woods Richardson spent most of his time last season at Triple-A St. Paul, going 7-6 with a 4.91 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and 19.3% strikeout rate in 113 2/3 innings pitched. While he has time in his career left to figure out how to deliver effective results, fantasy managers can keep him on the back burner for now.

Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Liam Hendriks (elbow) threw on flat grass from about 60 feet on Monday, per the Boston Globe's Pete Abraham. He was throwing to a catcher standing up and "threw with a pretty decent amount of zip". The 35-year-old is recovering from Tommy John surgery and hopes to make his season debut at the end of July. Hendriks has recently been a top fantasy contributor, and while he has a ways to go to return and the Red Sox currently have a strong closer in Kenley Jansen, Hendriks could find himself in the fantasy mix during the second half of the season.

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Luis Castillo looked ready to go in his spring debut Monday, firing two scoreless innings in a 2-0 Cactus League win over the Reds. Castillo's fastball touched 96 MPH as he allowed no hits and a walk with a strikeout. The 31-year-old turned in another stellar season in 2023, going 14-9 with a 3.34 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 27.3% strikeout rate in 33 starts and 197 innings pitched. Given the turbulent pitching landscape last season and his track record, Castillo has moved up into ace fantasy consideration for 2024.
