It’s not often you see a 12-seed favored over a 5-seed in the NCAA Tournament, but that’s exactly the case with Colorado State sitting as 1.5-point favorites against Memphis. The betting line itself is a strong indication of where these teams stand, despite the Tigers’ 29-5 record and high-powered offense. Memphis averages 80.1 points per game and has dominated AAC competition, but they’ll be without their second-best player, Tyrese Hunter, whose 13.7 PPG and 40.1% three-point shooting will be sorely missed. His absence puts added pressure on PJ Haggerty to generate offense, and against a disciplined Colorado State team, that’s a tough ask.

The Rams are coming into this matchup red-hot, having won 10 straight while holding opponents to just 61.4 PPG over that stretch. Their offense has been just as sharp, shooting 52.8% from the field in their last 10 games, led by Nique Clifford’s 19 PPG and nearly 10 rebounds per game. Colorado State thrives on defensive intensity and efficient shot selection—two traits that match up well against a Memphis squad that relies heavily on pace and transition scoring. With the Tigers missing a key piece and the Rams playing their best basketball of the season, the 12-seed being favored makes perfect sense. Colorado State has the edge to cover and move on to the next round.
