Luis Robert Jr. Hitless Through Two Spring Games

Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr. has played in both Cactus League games to start spring, going a combined 0-for-4 with a strikeout. The overall positive takeaway is that the 26-year-old is healthy and on the field, as injuries have been an issue throughout his career. Robert was able to stay on the field for most of 2023, slashing .264/.315/.542 with 38 home runs, 90 runs scored, 80 RBI, and 20 stolen bases in 595 plate appearances over 145 games. Despite hitting in a weak White Sox lineup, Robert has the potential to be a top fantasy contributor if he can stay healthy. It will be an encouraging sign for fantasy managers if he can put in a full spring.

Rafael Devers Homers In Spring Debut Sunday

Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers started his spring on the right foot Sunday, going 1-for-2 with a three-run home run and a walk in an 8-6 Grapefruit League win over the Twins. The 27-year-old is coming off another excellent season in which he slashed .271/.351/.500 with 33 home runs, 90 runs scored, 100 RBI, and five steals. Devers should be a top fantasy option and four-category contributor even if the Red Sox lineup does not bounce back from its overall disappointing 2023.

Shawn Dubin Dealing With Shoulder Inflammation

Houston Astros right-hander Shawn Dubin (shoulder) is dealing with right-shoulder inflammation in camp and will be shut down from throwing for three days. The injury, although it may not be very serious, is going to make it more difficult for Dubin to win a spot in the team's Opening Day bullpen out of spring training. The 28-year-old former 13th-round pick in 2018 out of Georgetown appeared in three games (one start) in his big-league debut for the Astros last year, giving up seven earned runs on 12 hits (one homer) while walking three and striking out 11 in nine innings pitched. Dubin is not on the fantasy radar at all, even if he makes the big-league roster out of camp. He had a rough 6.63 ERA and 1.61 WHIP in 55 2/3 innings at Triple-A Sugar Land last year.

Sam Bachman, Jose Quijada Continue Their Throwing Programs

Los Angeles Angels pitchers Sam Bachman (shoulder) and Jose Quijada (elbow) have continued their throwing programs in spring training. Bachman is recovering from right-shoulder surgery last September and was planning to throw from 75 to 90 feet on Monday. Quijada, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery on his left elbow last May, was planning to throw up to 120 feet on Monday. Bachman will begin the 2024 season on the injured list and is expected to miss at least the first month of the 2024 season. He's not a lock to join the big-league roster when he's activated. Quijada will open the year on the 60-day injured list and probably won't make his 2024 debut until after the All-Star break.

John McMillon Throws Live Batting Practice

Kansas City Royals right-hander John McMillon (forearm) was scheduled to throw a live batting practice session in camp on Monday. Barring a setback, McMillon could soon make his Cactus League debut. The 26-year-old made his major-league debut in 2023 for the Royals and allowed just one earned run on a solo home run while walking none and striking out eight in four relief innings. However, his rookie season ended early due to a right forearm strain that he's still working through. McMillon has some strikeout upside, but he also had too many walks in the minors. If he's healthy in time for Opening Day, he should find a spot in the big-league bullpen and could eventually be used in late-inning situations for his ability to miss bats.
