It’s time for teams at this week’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans. After back-to-back signature events, it’s a reset week with the season’s only team event. Starting with the unique format of this event, 80 teams to two will open the week with four-ball which is exactly what it sounds like. Each golfer in the group will be playing their own ball (four balls in action) and the best score from the team is used on each hole. Then Friday and Sunday they use alternate-shot, which is more strategy comes into play and brings in more potential for big numbers.
Given there is just one team event each year, played on one course, we don’t have a lot of data to work with for DFS when it comes to isolating styles of skills that might be useful for the event. Instead of just guessing or making assumptions, let’s stick to the baseline performance data while also utilizing golfer and team variance. With that in mind, here are my favorite DFS plays for the Zurich Classic.
Core Target
Doug Ghim & Chan Kim
When it comes to making the cut this week, I want to focus on steady iron play, especially with long irons as TPC Louisiana can give you a lot of approach shots from outside of 200 yards. These two pass that test with flying colors. They are both horrendous on the greens, but if they figure it out together then a top 20 could easily become a top five.
