  • 49ers -3.5
  • Total: 49.5

Opening odds – 49ers-Eagles

The Eagles were able to shut down the Atlanta Falcons to cover the spread of +3.5 in Week 1 and will hope to do it once again this weekend against the San Francisco 49ers. For the 49ers, it was a close call to end the game against the Detroit Lions after the 49ers had been dominant through three quarters. Barely covering the spread of -7.5 with less than 10 seconds left in the fourth quarter, bettors were sweating. With a much closer matchup expected against the Eagles, 49ers come in at -3.5 favorites.

Quarterback analysis – Jimmy Garoppolo vs. Jalen Hurts

Securing the starting quarterback position, Jimmy Garoppolo did what he does best and managed the game in Week 1. He was able to throw for 314 yards with one touchdown while completing 17 of his 25 passes. Now, for this 49ers offense, it can get confusing for defenses near the red zone; Trey Lance came into play on three series Sunday. While Lance was stopped on a quarterback option play, he came back in to complete his only pass for the day to Trent Sherfield for a touchdown. While some may see this as a bad gameplan, Kyle Shanahan will utilize both quarterbacks as best as he can.

Jalen Hurts had a wild offseason — his name was brought up in multiple trade rumors. He showed that those rumors didn’t bother him, silencing a lot of people in Week 1. He threw for 264 yards with three touchdowns while being very efficient, completing 27 of his 35 passes. Not only that, like Eliot Crist broke down in his “Konami Code” article, Hurts can run and do it very well. He rushed for 62 yards to add to his stat sheet also.

Latest 49ers betting news & info

It is a little difficult to compare last season to this season for the 49ers, as the 2020 team was plagued by injuries. With hopes of having a healthy season, they’ve already had some key injuries pop up. Raheem Mostert left the game versus the Detroit Lions in the first quarter due to a knee injury. To add on, cornerback Jason Verrett also went down in the fourth quarter with a fear of a torn ACL. Brandon Aiyuk also wasn’t targeted as he was still battling a hamstring issue from the preseason and apparently fell down the depth chart, but Deebo Samuel and Trent Sherfield were able to step up.

With all the injuries, the 49ers were still able to cover the spread and hit the over as the offense continued to click in all four quarters. Starting off this season the complete opposite of last season, the 49ers could be a very productive team to target the over while the spread may be a question at times throughout this season. They finished last season 7-9 ATS but also finished in the bottom of the barrel for the NFC West which could be a very competitive group this season.

Latest Eagles betting news & info

The Eagles and Hurts put on a showcase Week 1 while covering the spread and hitting the over. The offense was the star in Week 1. Hurts found rookie DeVonta Smith for a touchdown while also adding in Jalen Reagor and tight end Dallas Goedart. Kenneth Gainwell took a touchdown from Miles Sanders, but both backs helped open up this offense. While a Week 2 matchups against the 49ers could be more formidable, the Lions showed that defense isn’t invincible.

Last season was a struggle for the Eagles as they finished their season 4-11-1 while going 6-10 ATS and finding themselves more on the under for total points. Already showing how productive this offense could be with Hurts, the Eagles should be in a position to compete with most teams and have more success covering the spread.

49ers vs. Eagles betting picks – NFL Week 2

This will be a battle between two offenses that can create openings to score but there is a trend that the San Francisco 49ers have when staying east. The San Francisco 49ers are 2-0 ATS when they stay out east between weeks the past two seasons. With Hurts wanting to silence the doubters, the Eagles will most likely stay in this game and make the over of 49.5 hit.

Here are our betting picks for 49ers vs. Eagles in Week 2.
