Jimmy Garoppolo Back With Rams On One-Year Deal

Free-agent quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is signing back with the Los Angeles Rams on a one-year deal, according to ESPN. The 33-year-old signed with Los Angeles last offseason to back up Matthew Stafford and will return in that role for the 2025 campaign. Garoppolo has thrown for 15,828 yards, 96 touchdowns, and 52 interceptions in 82 career games with the New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers, Las Vegas Raiders, and Rams. He appeared in one game last season, posting 334 passing yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. While Jimmy G won't see significant playing time barring a Stafford injury, he's worth stashing in deeper Superflex or two-QB formats. If Stafford has to miss any time next season, Garoppolo would be throwing to Puka Nacua and Davante Adams and could have low-end QB1 upside.

Rams Want Jimmy Garoppolo Back

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay said he "absolutely" wants backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to re-sign with the team this offseason despite the fact that the Rams are keeping starter Matthew Stafford for another season. Garoppolo played in only one game in 2024 in the Week 18 regular-season finale when all the starters were rested before the playoffs. In the loss to the division-rival Seattle Seahawks, the 33-year-old veteran went 27-for-41 for 334 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. McVay has been high on Jimmy G and was reportedly even comfortable with using him as the starter in 2025 if the Rams couldn't work out a restructured deal with Stafford and were forced to trade him this offseason. Whether Garoppolo stays in L.A. will all depend on if he can find a legitimate chance to start elsewhere on the open market.

Rams Comfortable With Jimmy Garoppolo

The Athletic's Dianna Russini says that the Los Angeles Rams are comfortable with Jimmy Garoppolo as their starting quarterback. Current QB Matthew Stafford is looking for over $50 million per year on a possible two-year deal worth up to $110 million. Stafford and his agent are currently reaching out to other teams that might be interested in trading for him to see if they'd pay him what he's seeking. If no other NFL team wants to give him $50 million a year, then he might come back to the Rams and take less to stay in LA for another year or two. The 37-year-old has two years left on his deal with the Rams, and the team is currently debating whether they want to move forward with the aging signal-caller. Garoppolo would definitely be a downgrade under center. He started one game in 2024 and threw for 334 yards, two touchdowns and a pick in Week 18 against the Seahawks.
