Josh Smith Still Out Of Lineup Friday Night

Texas Rangers third baseman and outfielder Josh Smith (thumb) is still out of the Rangers' lineup for Friday night's matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Smith injured his thumb against the Seattle Mariners and hasn't played for five days. The 27-year-old had been making his mark filling in for Josh Jung at third base, slashing for a .342/.432/.500 line in 44 PA. In Smith's absence, Dustin Harris will get the start in left field and will hit sixth. The 25-year-old has perform well in his five games this season but will face a tough test Friday against Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Though a tough test, DFS managers may find value in a cheap option by getting Harris into their lineups.

Zach Neto Reinstated From Injury List, Will Make Season Debut Friday

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto (shoulder) has been reinstated from the injury list and will be batting seventh in the Angels' lineup in their matchup against the San Francisco Giants. Neto underwent right shoulder surgery in November and has progressed through a rehab assignment for the past few weeks. The 24-year-old will look to show his 2024 season was a strong showing of who he can be at the plate after posting a 112 OPS+ and a 5.1 WAR. Fantasy managers need to make sure to grab him off the waiver wire if available as he will certainly provide long-term value in all fantasy leagues. DFS managers may want to wait for Neto to shake off the rust before he can provide DFS value.

Shohei Ohtani Out Of Friday's Lineup For Birth Of First Child

Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani is out of the Dodgers' lineup for Friday night's game against the Texas Rangers. Ohtani and his wife are expecting their first child. Fantasy managers should expect that Ohtani may be out for a few days, though manager Dave Roberts did say that it's possible Ohtani returns to the team by Sunday. The Dodgers have yet to release an official lineup for Friday night but expect Enrique Hernandez to get more at-bats in Ohtani's absence. Hernandez has hit for a .564 OPS to start the season, making him tough to trust in any fantasy format. Fantasy managers looking to fill Ohtani's void this weekend should be able to find other options on the waiver wire.

Eugenio Suarez Hits Grand Slam In Friday Afternoon's Loss

Arizona Diamondbacks' third baseman Eugenio Suarez hit a grand slam on Friday afternoon in the DBack's 13-11 loss to the Chicago Cubs. The grand slam was his sixth home run on the season and he's now hitting for a .709 OPS. The HR was much needed for the 33-year-old, who hadn't hit one in over two weeks. Fantasy managers will be glad to see the power is still there but his .153 batting average may make them feel like his production is either boom or bust, making him tougher to trust if he doesn't become more consistent. He'll look to keep improving on Saturday against scheduled Cubs' starter Ben Brown.

Brandon Young Set To Make MLB Debut On Saturday

Baltimore Orioles pitching prospect Brandon Young is set to make his MLB debut on Saturday afternoon against the Cincinnati Reds. Young joined the Baltimore taxi squad prior to Friday's series opener and is set to take the big league bump for the first time on Saturday. Young opened the campaign with Triple-A Norfolk and held a 2.76 ERA with an impressive 0.92 WHIP across 16 1/3 innings of work. During this stint, the right-hander struck out 17 batters and served up just two free passes. This was a nice improvement compared to the 3.44 ERA and the 1.28 WHIP he held at Triple-A during his first stint with Norfolk during the 2024 campaign. Fantasy managers should only target Young in AL-only formats. He could be worth a look in DFS as a high-upside value play.
