The quarterback position took its share of injuries once again in Week 9, along with plenty of other fantasy football-relevant players. It’s an unfortunate part of the game, but there is plenty to break down for Week 10, so let’s dig in.
Saturday Injury Report Update
Injuries and bye weeks are doing their best to cripple fantasy managers heading into Week 10, so there’s plenty to go over. It could wind up being a low-scoring week with how many missing pieces there are across the league, so let’s go to work.
Josh Downs, Indianapolis Colts
After being forced to leave the game in Week 9, Josh Downs didn’t practice for the Colts this week. They’re listing him as questionable, but that seems to be optimistic. Alec Pierce should step into an every-down role, but Isaiah McKenzie could benefit the most. New England is in the bottom 10 in points per game allowed to the slot receiver, and Downs has been playing over 80% of his snaps there. McKenzie would naturally slide right in and could be fantasy-relevant right away.
Treylon Burks, Tennessee Titans
It’s been a nightmare season for Treylon Burks, and he’ll miss Week 10 now as well. We shouldn’t get too excited for an offense that’s being run by a rookie making his third start, but it could open up more time for Kyle Philips and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine. Philips already saw five targets last week with Burks active, so it stands to reason he’d benefit the most with extra playing time.
Nico Collins/Dameon Pierce, Houston Texans
It’s going to be tough for C.J. Stroud and the Texans to follow up on last week’s performance when they almost scored 40 points since they’re missing Nico Collins. While Noah Brown had a monster game in Week 9, it’s important to remember that Robert Woods was out as well. Woods never dipped below 62% of the snaps before he missed the past two weeks, so he’s likely going to be on the field plenty this week, provided he plays. Dameon Pierce will miss his second consecutive game, and I suppose it can’t go worse for Devin Singletary. He wasn’t even able to muster 40 scrimmage yards last week despite getting the vast majority of touches at the position.
Tee Higgins, Cincinnati Bengals
Houston’s opponent is also missing a receiver since Tee Higgins has been ruled out. That should open up more targets for Ja’Marr Chase (who is also questionable) and Tyler Boyd, not to mention Trenton Irwin should see a lot more snaps. Irwin is not a recommended fantasy option unless Chase misses, but we can throw some darts with him on the DFS side of things. If Chase gets ruled out, things start to get murky on the Cincinnati side of things. Andrei Iosivas would have to play more, but we’d hit a point where even Joe Burrow could struggle a bit without his top two options.
Emari Demercado/James Conner, Arizona Cardinals
Emari Demercado has been ruled out, but the Cardinals are saying that James Conner is trending toward playing, which is huge. Conner is the workhorse when he’s active, and the Arizona offense has been plugging away with Keaontay Ingram and Tony Jones at running back. This is the healthiest the Cardinals have been offensively all year, and they get to face the Falcons at home this week.
Original Week 10 Fantasy Football Injury Report
Jaren Hall, QB, Minnesota Vikings
Cam Akers, RB, Minnesota Vikings
K.J. Osborn, WR, Minnesota Vikings
Jaren Hall was likely nothing more than a one-week fill-in option while Joshua Dobbs learned the Minnesota offense, but Hell left Sunday’s game after just six attempts. Dobbs came and helped orchestrate a game-winning drive to beat the Falcons and put the Vikings in position for a playoff spot, so I’d say the job is secured. The running back room is also thinner as Cam Akers is feared to have torn his Achilles, which would put him out for the rest of the season. Alexander Mattison and Ty Chandler would be the primary options the rest of the way.
Lastly, K.J. Osborn took a scary hit and was forced from the game in concussion protocol. That would leave Jordan Addison and Brandon Powell as the main two options in the receiver room if Osborn misses time before Justin Jefferson gets back.
Daniel Jones, QB, New York Giants
The New York season was already going just horribly and now Daniel Jones has torn his ACL. It was a non-contact injury, which typically doesn’t end well for the player. Tyrod Taylor is already on the IR, so the Giants could be staring down the barrel of undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito continuing to play quarterback, with Matt Barkley available on the practice squad. As bad as the Giants have been offensively, this would be an unmitigated disaster for the rest of the season.
Christian Watson, WR, Green Bay Packers
The horrific season for Christian Watson continued Sunday with just one reception, and he left with a chest and back injury along with needing a concussion test at the end of the game. Watson has already missed three games and has just 12 receptions in five games for 213 yards. Romeo Doubs and Jayden Reed would likely benefit the most but the Green Bay offense continues to struggle mightily.
Joshua Palmer, Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers still have to play Monday night, but they placed receiver Joshua Palmer on the IR, so he’ll miss at least the next four games. That means rookie Quentin Johnston has a massive chance to step up in this offense, coming off his best game. The issue is that game was only 5/50, and Johnston has been a fantasy (and real-life) disappointment in his first NFL season. It’s not likely to get better Monday since he’ll have to deal with the excellent secondary of the Jets but moving forward, he should be on the flex radar with room to grow into more.
Dallas Goedert, Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles secured a huge win against the Dallas Cowboys Sunday, but it did come at a cost since Dallas Goedert broke his forearm and could be looking at a stint on the IR. Jack Stoll and Albert Okwuegbunam are the backup options, but this may just concentrate even more targets on A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and D’Andre Swift.
