The Atlanta Falcons made a pair of signings Tuesday, including a running back who could play a big role in 2021, bring in RB Mike Davis and LB Barkevious Mingo, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
For fantasy purposes, Davis is the clear headline. The 28-year-old has bounced around a bit in his career, spending two seasons each with the 49ers and Seahawks and playing part of 2019 with the Bears before landing with the Panthers in the middle of the 2019 season. With Christian McCaffrey hurt for much of 2020, though, Davis had his career year, putting up 1,015 scrimmage yards and scoring 8 touchdowns, finishing 2020 as the PPR RB12 despite starting only 12 games.
Mingo, the sixth overall pick of the Browns in the 2013 draft, played three years for Cleveland 2013-2015 before moving around, playing a season each for the Patriots, Colts, Seahawks, Texans and Bears in the last five years. He has 12.5 career sacks.
Falcons add running back in Mike Davis
Fantasy slant: Atlanta addresses a glaring need with Davis, but let's not get too far out over our skis on this one. Davis briefly flashed RB1 fantasy chops before turning back into a pumpkin with the Panthers' last season. The 28-year-old is quite capable in the passing game, but has proven to be a subpar runner in his NFL career. Davis is set up to serve as a complementary piece with the Falcons almost certain to select a running back in April's draft. – Jeff Ratcliffe
