2024 Team Stats

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Robbie Ray gave up a two-run home run to rookie Caleb Durbinbut was able to limit the damage to just those two runs allowed over his five innings on Tuesday night. He was not efficient with his pitch count and needed 92 pitches to get through five frames while striking out four, walking three, and giving up five hits. The 33-year-old lefty has issued at least three free passes in each of his last four starts and has a 6.7 BB/9 rate on the year. He'll need to improve his control and efficiency to work deeper into games, but he has battled to maintain a 9.3 K/9 and 4.07 ERA despite a 5.87 FIP and 1.56 WHIP. The Giants ultimately won Monday's game, and they'll hope to get a better outing from Ray in his next scheduled start on Saturday against the Rangers.

San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Camilo Doval notched his third save of the season on Monday, locking down a 5-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. Doval tossed a perfect ninth inning, striking out one while not allowing a baserunner. The 27-year-old is making things interesting in the Giants bullpen, as he has allowed just one baserunner in his last five appearances while closer Ryan Walker just had a disastrous four-run blown save in his last outing. Doval might have a chance to overtake Walker at some point, but for now the Giants are likely to stick with the latter, as he has been solid other than the one poor performance.

The Seattle Mariners have decided to trade left-handed relief pitcher Drew Pomeranz to the Chicago Cubs on Monday. The veteran southpaw reportedly has an upward-mobility clause in his contract. That means that the Mariners needed to offer Pomeranz to every team, and if there was an organization willing to promote him, then he needed to be traded there or recalled to Seattle's bullpen. He'll be sent to Chicago after posting a 4.66 ERA with 14 strikeouts and six walks in 9 2/3 innings in Triple-A. Pomeranz hasn't pitched in the MLB since 2021, so it's unclear what exactly the Cubs are going to get here.

San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman went 2-for-3 with a home run and a stolen base to carry the Giants to a 3-2 victory over the Angels. Chapman's two-run blast off Kyle Hendricks in the first gave the team a lead it would hold the entire game, and he singled and stole second in the fourth inning, before being stranded. The 31-year-old veteran is finding some rhythm at the plate after a slow start and now has four home runs and three stolen bases to go with his .250 batting average and .386 wOBA on the year. He has four multi-hit games in his last five contests, going 8-for-16 (.500) with a double, two stolen bases, and two home runs in that span. He and the Giants will look to secure a series win on Sunday in Anaheim and then head home to face the Brewers and the Rangers this coming week.

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Landen Roupp had another strong start on Saturday night, holding the Angels to just two runs on five hits over seven innings. He had nine strikeouts and limited the damage to just a pair of solo home runs by Mike Trout. This was Roupp's longest outing of the year and his second straight victory. He has compiled a 4.09 ERA and 3.25 FIP across 22 innings with an impressive 11.9 K/9. The 26-year-old has made a successful transition from the bullpen to the rotation so far this season, and he is a good streaming and NL-only option against the Brewers for his next start on Thursday. If he keeps posting outings like this one, he'll soon be mixed-league material as well.
