Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte (ankle) is not in the team's starting lineup on Tuesday for the game at Chase Field against the visiting Colorado Rockies. Marte suffered an ankle contusion on Saturday against the Philadelphia Phillies, didn't play on Sunday, and then was removed early from Monday's series opener with the Rockies with more discomfort in the same ankle. We'll have a better idea on whether the 30-year-old All-Star will need a trip to the injured list after his MRI results come back. An IL stint would be a huge blow to the contending D-backs and Marte's fantasy managers, as he's been one of the best hitters in baseball in 2024. He's currently batting .298 (129-for-433) with 30 homers, 81 RBI and six steals in 114 games. If Marte is forced to the IL, Kevin Newman, who is playing second base on Tuesday, would see most of the starts at the keystone for Arizona.
Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte (ankle) fell to the ground while taking a swing in Monday's series opener against the visiting Colorado Rockies while taking a swing but remained in the game. Marte then hobbled down to first base on a fly out and was eventually removed from the contest and replaced by Kevin Newman at second base. The 30-year-old All-Star is clearly still dealing with a bruised left ankle that caused him to leave Saturday's game early against the Philadelphia Phillies and then miss the series finale on Sunday. The D-backs can ill-afford to lose Marte, who has been one of the best hitters in baseball all year, for any amount of time as they vie for a wild-card spot in the National League down the stretch. Fantasy managers should expect Marte to at least miss the second game of the series with the Rockies on Tuesday.UPDATE: Marte will undergo an MRI exam on Tuesday on his left ankle, according to manager Torey Lovullo.
Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte (ankle) is back at second base and is hitting second for Arizona in Monday's series opener against the visiting Colorado Rockies and right-hander Cal Quantrill. A left-ankle contusion forced Marte from Saturday's game early against the Philadelphia Phillies, and he didn't play in Sunday's series finale. But now that the 30-year-old All-Star is back in action on Monday, fantasy managers everywhere need to return him to their starting lineups immediately. He's hitting a strong .299/.370/.563 on the year with a .932 OPS, 30 home runs, 81 RBI, six stolen bases and 81 runs scored in 432 at-bats and has an excellent matchup on Monday against Quantrill, who he has hit .273 against in 11 career at-bats with an .878 OPS, a home run and two RBI.
Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte (ankle) will take Sunday off and could return to the starting nine as early as Monday, according to Jesse Friedman. Marte left Saturday's game early after colliding with a base runner when attempting to make a tag. He was seen holding his ankle in pain but was able to walk off the field under his own power. Clearly, this injury is not significant, as the star infielder hopes to be back in the lineup as early as Monday. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to the 30-year-old's status prior to setting their weekly lineups. Marte has enjoyed a fantastic 2024 campaign, boasting a stellar .299/.370/.563 slash line with 30 home runs and 81 RBI.
Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte (leg/ankle) was removed early from Saturday's game after attempting to make a tag at second base. His left leg got caught under the bag, which caused him to grab the lower part of his leg/ankle in pain. The 30-year-old was able to walk off the diamond on his own power. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to any updates regarding the infielder's status. Earlier in this game, Marte launched his 30th long ball of the season in the opening frame. The switch-hitter has been enjoying an MVP-caliber season, boasting a stellar .299/.368/.563 line with 81 RBI. Under the hood, he holds an incredible 53.6% hard-hit rate, .299 xBA, and a .537 xSLG, which are among the best marks in the game. If Marte were to miss any extended period of time, Kevin Newman is likely to see most of the starts at the keystone.
