Jordan Lawlar Unlikely To Win A Bench Role

According to Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com, Diamondbacks shortstop prospect Jordan Lawlar is not expected to win a bench role during spring training. General manager Mike Hazen noted that starting the year on the bench, given how much time he missed last season, is "probably not what's in his best interest." Last summer, Lawlar appeared in just 23 games in the minor leagues due to a lingering hamstring injury. As a result, fantasy managers should expect Grae Kessinger, Blaze Alexander, Garrett Hampson, and Ildemaro Vargas to be in the mix for this role. Lawlar made his MLB debut during the 2023 campaign and held a .129/.206/.129 line across 14 games. Across 28 Triple-A games, the top prospect in the system has held an impressive .362/.438/.602 line. He should be in the mix to return to the majors during the 2025 season.

Jordan Lawlar Getting Reps In Dominican Winter League

Arizona Diamondbacks infield prospect Jordan Lawlar missed most of the 2024 regular season due to injury, collecting only 67 plate appearances between Double-A and Triple-A. In order to make up for lost time and hopefully make a push for a 2025 roster spot, the club's top prospect (MLB No. 9) is spending time in the Dominican Winter League, getting much-needed at-bats to knock off the rust. While the 22-year-old started off hot, slashing .407/.481/.773 in his first 27 plate appearances, that line now stands at .237/.315/.355 in 108 PA. Importantly, however, he's still shown the pop and speed combination we've been accustomed to seeing from the healthy version of him, with three home runs and eight stolen bases thus far. It's not clear where exactly he would play on the infield at this point, but if he can make the roster next spring, the former sixth-overall draft pick could be an overlooked multi-category fantasy contributor after an unremarkable 2023 debut and lost 2024 season.

Jordan Lawlar Moving Up To Triple-A

Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop prospect Jordan Lawlar is set to be promoted to Triple-A Reno, according to MLB Pipeline. The top prospect in the Arizona system has battled a hamstring injury for most of the summer but will now return to the top level of the minor leagues. Across 15 games across the Rookie League and Double-A this summer, the No.7 ranked prospect in baseball has held a .304/.403/.482 slash line with five doubles and one round-tripper. Last summer at Triple-A Reno, the former sixth-overall selection in the 2021 MLB Draft posted a stellar .358/.438/.612 line with five home runs. While the 22-year-old has had a disappointing season, he could make a strong case to open the 2025 campaign in the big leagues if he could have a strong finish at the top level of the minors.
