The Arizona Diamondbacks have recalled left-handed pitcher Tommy Henry from Triple-A Reno. In a corresponding move, the Diamondbacks have optioned right-handed pitcher Scott McGough to Triple-A Reno. Henry will be making his first stint in Arizona this season. Last summer, the southpaw logged 38 1/3 innings in the desert to the tune of a 7.04 ERA and a 1.75 WHIP. During this stint, Henry struck out just 30 batters and served up walks at a high 9.9 percent rate. In 2023, Henry held a 4.15 ERA with a 1.36 WHIP across a career-high 89 innings of work. Fantasy managers should expect Henry to provide depth out of the bullpen. If he pitches well, he could eventually earn a long relief role, especially with both Merrill Kelly (hamstring) and Corbin Burnes (shoulder) dealing with injuries.

The Arizona Diamondbacks optioned left-hander Tommy Henry to Triple-A Reno on Friday. The D-backs also sent infielder Grae Kessinger and outfielder Jorge Barrosa to Reno while reassigning right-handers Jeff Brigham and Juan Morillo, left-hander Jose Castillo, infielder Connor Kaiser and outfielder Cristian Pache to minor-league camp. It's not a big surprise that Henry lost out on the competition for one of the final starting rotation spots in camp after he gave up six earned runs in 7 1/3 innings of work in the Cactus League. The 27-year-old southpaw will begin the 2025 campaign at Reno as starting depth for the big-league roster registering a career-worst 7.04 ERA and 1.75 WHIP with 30 strikeouts and 18 walks in 38 1/3 innings over nine appearances (seven starts) in the big leagues last year. At best, Henry will be a short-term rotation stopgap if injuries arise for Arizona during the year.

The Arizona Diamondbacks optioned left-hander Tommy Henry and pitcher Luis Frias to Triple-A Reno on Wednesday and recalled pitchers Justin Martinez and Logan Allen from Reno in corresponding moves. Henry allowed five runs in 4 1/3 innings in Tuesday's extra-inning win over the Chicago Cubs and has a 6.87 ERA and 1.80 WHIP with eight walks and 18 strikeouts in 18 1/3 innings over his first four starts of the 2024 season. The 26-year-old soft-tossing southpaw will go down to the farm to work on his craft while serving as starting pitching depth for the Snakes. He has become the odd-man out in Arizona's rotation with lefty Jordan Montgomery's debut with the team coming later this week.
