Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo explained that second baseman Ketel Marte (ankle), who was recently on the injured list with an ankle injury, had been in the "red zone" for a day off before being omitted from the starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the division-rival San Francisco Giants. Lovullo called the decision "preventative" as Marte has been grinding at less than 100% after returning from a left-ankle sprain. Arizona has been balancing working players back from injury while also trying to keep their foot on the gas pedal in a tight playoff race. Marte, who is having a career year at the plate in 2024, is expected to be full-go the rest of the way through the end of the regular season on Sunday. He has homered in three straight games as well, so fantasy managers will want him back in their starting lineups on Tuesday.
Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte is not in the team's starting lineup for Monday's series opener at Chase Field against the division-rival San Francisco Giants. Kevin Newman will get the start at the keystone and will bat eighth against Giants rookie right-hander Hayden Birdsong. The D-backs have somewhat eased Marte back into the fold since he returned from an ankle injury in early September, as this will be his third game sitting since Sept. 6. The All-Star second baseman has homered in his last three games and has hit .271 (13-for-48) with five home runs, two doubles, 12 RBI and a stolen base in 14 games since returning from his ankle injury. Marte is having the best year of his career in 2024 and is a must-start in fantasy lineups when he's active. Newman is hitting .282 (80-for-284) but has only three homers on the year. He'll be a low-upside DFS sleeper play on Monday.
Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte has put together an unbelievable season at the plate. He's on fire with the bat right now as he pushed his home run streak to three games with another solid performance on Sunday. Marte went deep for the 35th time as he extends his career-high total. It was his only hit of the day, but Marte also scored two runs and stole a base during Sunday's loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. Marte deserves some MVP votes for his incredible season, but is a longshot to win the award.
Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte was busy on the basepaths Saturday, reaching base five times in five plate appearances in a 5-0 win over the Brewers. The 30-year-old reached via a single, homered for the second consecutive game, and drew three walks in the contest while collecting two RBI, scoring twice, and stealing a base. Marte is enjoying a productive campaign, putting together a .296-34-92-88-7 line with a .392 wOBA and 152 wRC+. All of that makes him the top-scoring second baseman in fantasy.
Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte is absent from the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Colorado Rockies. This appears to be a routine rest day for Marte who is in the middle of a fantastic 2024 season. Marte is hitting .292 with 32 home runs and 87 RBI across 124 games this season. The expectation is that Marte is available off the bench and should be back in the lineup after this game. In the meantime, Luis Guillorme will cover second base and bat eighth versus right-hander Ryan Feltner. Guillorme has struggled since joining the D-Backs and won't be a viable fantasy option for Tuesday's slate.
