Lourdes Gurriel Jr. To Play In Rehab Game On Saturday

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (calf) is scheduled to play in a minor-league rehab game on Saturday at Salt River Fields. Gurriel has been on the 10-day injured list since Sept. 3 with a calf strain, and manager Torey Lovullo said he will likely return to the big-league lineup after catcher Gabriel Moreno (groin), who could be back next week in the series against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. "If I had to choose between one or the other, I would say Gabi first then Lourdes," Lovullo said. "Their returns are coming and they are getting very close and they are both feeling very good." When he's ready, the 30-year-old will return to regular duties in left field in the desert. Veteran Randal Grichuk has seen more run in the starting lineup since Gurriel has been out. In 125 games this year, Gurriel has provided fantasy managers with 17 homers, 70 RBI and seven steals while hitting a respectable .274.

Diamondbacks Hoping Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Will Return Soon

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (calf), who left the team's game on Sept. 1 with left-calf tightness, has hit off the Trajekt pitching machine and is scheduled to do some running on Thursday. Gurriel was put on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Sept. 2) after testing showed his calf strain. The good news is that both he and manager Torey Lovullo said the injury isn't serious, and the hope is that Gurriel can return after missing the minimal amount of time on the IL. The 30-year-old is the club's regular left fielder when healthy, so the Snakes will want him back as they make their final push for another postseason appearance in September. The Cuban slugger was a first-time All-Star in 2023 in his first year in the desert and is currently hitting a respectable .274/.316/.428 with 17 homers, 70 RBI and seven stolen bases in his 125 games.

Diamondbacks Hope Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Can Return Soon

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (calf) suffered a left-calf strain on Sunday and was placed on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Sept. 2), but both Gurriel and manager Torey Lovullo said the injury isn't considered serious, and there's hope that he can return after missing minimal time on the injured list. It's good news for a D-backs club that is in prime spot to earn one of the three wild-card spots in the National League as they look to get back to the World Series this fall. The 30-year-old Cuban slugger was a first-time All-Star in 2023 and will return to regular duties in left field in Arizona when he's activated from the IL. So far in 125 games in 2024 with the Snakes, Gurriel has a produced a .274/.316/.428 slash line with 17 homers, 70 RBI and a career-high seven stolen bases. The lefty hitting Pavin Smith is most likely to benefit from extra playing time until Gurriel returns.
