Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson enjoyed a big day at the plate in Friday's win over the visiting Seattle Mariners, homering and tripling during the victory. Henderson homered on a fly ball to center field to knot the game up at one run apiece in the first inning, later tripling on a sharp line drive to left field to score Jorge Mateo and make it a four-run ballgame in the eighth. The 22-year-old reigning American League Rookie of the Year was quieting down in May following a roaring start to the season, going just 8-for-45 (.178) with two long balls in 52 plate appearances this month before Friday's outing, but he returned to form in this one. Henderson will face Seattle two more times this series, but he's batting only .217 (5-for-23) with the aforementioned big fly and three RBI in seven career games against the Mariners.
Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson is hitting in the cleanup spot on Wednesday as he faces the visiting Toronto Blue Jays and left-hander Yusei Kikuchi. This will be the first time in 2024 that Henderson has hit anywhere in the lineup besides leadoff. The 22-year-old left-handed hitter got off to a hot start in April but has been a bit quiet so far in May. On the year as a whole, he's hitting .264 (42-for-159) with 12 home runs, 27 RBI, six stolen bases and 30 runs scored in 40 games in just his third MLB season. Since the calendar flipped to May, he's gone just 8-for-42 (.191) with two homers and three RBI. Henderson is hitting .317 (19-for-60) with four of his 12 homers against southpaws this year, so don't sit him just because he's cooled off and is facing a left-hander on Wednesday. Third baseman Jordan Westburg is hitting leadoff for the O's.
Baltimore Orioles third baseman/shortstop Gunnar Henderson continued his power display in Monday's 2-0 win over the Yankees. Henderson went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a strikeout. He was also hit by a pitch. The 22-year-old is now tied for the league lead with 10 HR and owns a .289/.352/.632 slash line with 23 RBI and six stolen bases. He showed huge fantasy potential last season in terms of power and speed and has taken a step forward in average so far this season.
Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson stuffed the stat sheet in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Los Angeles Angels, going 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, three RBI, and a stolen base. Henderson first homered to get the O's on the board in the third inning. After leading off the fifth with a double, he hit a two-run single in the sixth before stealing a base in the eighth to put the cherry on top of a wonderful day in Anaheim. The 22-year-old reigning American League Rookie of the Year might be getting even better in his third season, now slashing a robust .309/.373/.649 with eight round-trippers, 20 RBI, 20 runs scored, and five pilfers atop Baltimore's high-powered lineup. Henderson has a great chance to stay hot during a home series with the Oakland Athletics starting on Friday, as he's batting .371 (13-for-40) with two bombs, five doubles, five RBI, and 11 runs scored in nine career games against the A's.
Baltimore Orioles third baseman Gunnar Henderson went 2-for-4 with a walk and home run in Monday's victory against the Minnesota Twins. The home run would be his fourth of the season. In addition, he is hitting .250 with 11 RBI, 11 runs and four stolen bases. The young shortstop had a fabulous rookie campaign in 2023 and it looks like his managers won't have to worry about a sophomore slump. Hitting atop one of the best lineups in the league, Henderson is in a great position to help managers across the board in all formats. Next up will be a matchup versus Chris Paddack on Tuesday evening.
