Chayce McDermott Making Spot Start In Game 2 Of Doubleheader

Baltimore Orioles pitching prospect Chayce McDermott is being called up from Triple-A Norfolk to make a spot start in Game 2 of a doubleheader on Wednesday against the visiting Minnesota Twins. It will be McDermott's second major-league start after making his big-league debut on July 24 of last year, when he allowed three earned runs with two walks and three strikeouts in four innings in a no-decision against the Miami Marlins. The 26-year-old is considered the team's No. 4 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, but he's thrown only 9 2/3 innings for the Tides in the minors due to a strained right lat that sidelined him to begin the 2025 campaign. McDermott went four innings and threw 65 pitches in his last start for Norfolk, so fantasy managers should expect him to have a short leash in his first MLB appearance this year.

Chayce McDermott Activated Off Injured List, Sent To Triple-A

The Baltimore Orioles have officially activated right-handed pitching prospect Chayce McDermott (lat) off the 15-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk. McDermott was dealing with a lat strain during the opening month of the campaign. He logged 5 2/3 innings of rehab work and allowed two hits and one run, and held a 6:4 K:BB. Last summer, McDermott spent most of his time at Triple-A but did make his MLB debut. Across his first four innings of work in Baltimore, the right-hander held a 6.75 ERA. At Triple-A, the No. 4-ranked prospect in the Baltimore system posted a solid 3.78 ERA with a 1.41 WHIP across 100 innings of work. During this stint, he struck out 144 batters and served up 60 free passes. Fantasy managers should expect McDermott to contend for a return to the major leagues later this summer.

Chayce McDermott Struggles In First Rehab Start

Baltimore Orioles pitching prospect Chayce McDermott (lat) struggled in his first rehab start with Double-A Chesapeake on Sunday. In this outing, the right-hander logged just 1 2/3 innings of work. He allowed one hit and one run but served up three free passes. He struck out three batters as well. McDermott has been sidelined with a lat strain he suffered early in spring training. Fantasy managers should expect the No. 4-ranked prospect in the system to continue to slowly increase his workload over the next few weeks. When he does officially return from the injured list, fantasy managers should expect the right-hander to open his 2025 campaign with Triple-A Norfolk. However, he could be in the mix for an early return to the majors. Last season during his first look in the big leagues, he logged four innings to the tune of a 6.75 ERA. For now, he should not be stashed in any redraft formats.
