Baltimore Orioles right-handed pitcher Albert Suarez (shoulder) has been shut down from throwing. According to Matt Weyrich of the Baltimore Sun, he will not resume throwing until an MRI shows healing in his right shoulder. He will not begin throwing for at least three weeks. The 35-year-old was recently moved to the 60-day injured list. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his progress, but should not expect him to return to the mound anytime soon. Last summer, Suarez operated as a swingman in Baltimore and appeared in 32 games (24 starts) and held a 3.70 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP across 133 2/3 innings of work. With Suarez sidelined, fantasy managers should expect southpaw Cade Povich to continue to see opportunities in the rotation.

The Baltimore Orioles announced on Sunday that they have placed right-hander Albert Suarez (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to March 29) with right-shoulder inflammation and have selected the contract of right-hander Matt Bowman from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move. Suarez, 35, lost out on the No. 5 rotation spot out of spring training to left-hander Cade Povich and will now head to the IL early in the season after throwing 2 2/3 innings in his lone relief appearance on Friday against the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays in which he allowed two runs (one earned) and showed diminished velocity. It's unclear if he'll be able to come off the IL when he's eligible on April 13, but Suarez really isn't valuable in fantasy in deeper leagues unless he's in Baltimore's starting rotation.

It doesn't mean that Suarez won't be starting games for Baltimore this year, but his minimal fantasy value will take a hit in AL-only leagues to begin the season. The 35-year-old veteran appeared in a career-high 32 games (24 starts) a year ago and went 9-7 with a career-best 3.70 ERA (4.24 FIP) and 1.29 WHIP with 108 strikeouts and 43 walks in 133 2/3 innings pitched. Fantasy managers in AL-only leagues certainly shouldn't expect that kind of volume in 2025 in his second year in Baltimore. He figures to make most of his appearances this year in a long-relief role, but he'll still be a valuable swingman for the O's.
