Nick Maton Outrighted To Triple-A

Chicago White Sox infielder Nick Maton cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday, according to MLB.com's Scott Merkin. Maton will remain with the White Sox despite recently being designated for assignment and losing his spot on the 40-man roster. The 28-year-old will continue to serve as infield depth in the minors for the Pale Hose. He appeared in 23 games for Chicago to open the 2025 season and went 9-for-52 (.173) with two home runs, two doubles, four RBI, five runs scored, nine walks and 18 strikeouts. The former seventh-round selection by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2017 out of Lincoln Land Community College is well off the fantasy radar and has a .202/.302/.354 career slash line with a .655 OPS, 17 home runs and 67 RBI in 207 games played.

Brooks Baldwin, Travis Jankowski, Nick Maton Make Opening Day Roster

Chicago White Sox middle infielder Brooks Baldwin, outfielder Travis Jankowski and second baseman Nick Maton have all made the Opening Day roster. Prospect Colson Montgomery and Chase Meidroth will start in the minors, so the White Sox plan on mixing and matching at shortstop to begin the season. Jacob Amaya is probably the favorite for most of the playing time at the 6, but the 24-year-old Baldwin should serve in a utility infield role. He hit just .211 with two homers, eight RBI and four steals in 33 games in his major-league debut in 2024. Jankowski, 33, latched on with the Pale Hose after being cut by the Cubs in spring training. With Mike Tauchman (hamstring) starting on the injured list, he could see some starts in the outfield against right-handers, but Jankowski has little fantasy upside. Maton, 28, had a strong spring and will serve as middle-infield depth to begin the 2025 campaign.

Nick Maton Agrees To Minor-League Deal With White Sox

Free-agent infielder Nick Maton agreed to a minor-league deal with the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday that includes an invitation to major-league spring training. Maton is a versatile defender and has recorded a .659 OPS in parts of five big-league seasons. The 27-year-old former seventh-round pick by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2017 was hitless with two strikeouts in five at-bats with the Baltimore Orioles in 2024 and slashed .258/.366/.470 with an .836 OPS, 16 home runs, 57 RBI and 44 runs scored in 91 games with High-A Aberdeen and Triple-A Norfolk in the minors. In 184 games at the big-league level since debuting with Philly in 2021, Maton has hit just .205/.303/.357 with 15 homers and 63 RBI in 514 plate appearances. His greatest asset is his infield versatility, and he could see time in the majors for the rebuilding Pale Hose in 2025.
