Livan Soto Promoted To The Major Leagues

Baltimore Orioles shortstop prospect Livan Soto is being promoted to the major leagues, according to Roch Kubatko of MASN. Infielder Jordan Westburg was diagnosed with a fractured hand on Wednesday afternoon which opens the door for Soto to serve as a utility option in the Baltimore infield. The 24-year-old got a brief taste of the big leagues over the past few seasons with several different clubs and held a .358/.397/.507 line across 23 games. At Triple-A this season, Soto held a .280/.378/.376 line with 15 doubles, four home runs, and four stolen bases. Soto may not receive stable playing time as top prospect Jackson Holliday will hold the keystone down, and Ramon Urias will likely cover the hot corner. However, if Soto begins to see stable opportunities, he could be worth a flier in deep AL-only formats.

Reds Claim Livan Soto Off Waivers From Orioles

The Cincinnati Reds claimed infielder Livan Soto off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles on Friday and optioned him to Triple-A Louisville. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Reds transferred right-hander Tejay Antone (elbow) to the 60-day injured list. Soto will join his third team of the year after the Orioles designated him for assignment earlier this week. The 23-year-old Venezuelan infielder made his major-league debut in 2022 with the Los Angeles Angels and has hit .375/.414/.531 with a .946 OPS, one home run, nine RBI and a stolen base in just 22 games played the last two seasons in Anaheim. He has a .780 OPS in 32 at-bats this year for Triple-A Norfolk and will now head to Louisville to give the Reds some extra infield depth.

Livan Soto Claimed Off Waivers By The Angels

The Los Angeles Angels have claimed infielder Livan Soto off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles. Soto was designated for assignment by the Angels last month before being claimed by the O's, who subsequently DFA'd him again. He ends up back with the Angels and will likely just serve as infield depth for the big league club. He has a solid .375/.414/.531 career triple-slash line at the big league level but the sample size is quite small (64 at-bats between 2022-23).
