Baltimore Orioles third base prospect Coby Mayo hit another home run for Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday. It was the 25th minor-league homer of the season for Mayo and the 22nd with Norfolk. Major League Baseball's No. 10 overall prospect had a 1-for-17 stint in the majors with Baltimore but has returned to Triple-A and has shown off his power stroke again. In the minors this season, the 22-year-old is hitting .302/.378/.610 with 25 homers and 73 RBI. With rosters set to expand in September, Mayo is likely to get another chance to prove himself with the Orioles. Like Jackson Holliday, his second go-around could be more of a success after regaining some confidence in the minors.

The stud prospect has torn up Triple-A this season but did not do much in his first stint in the major leagues. The 22-year-old was 1-for-17 after his call-up to Baltimore. That being said, he has pretty much mastered Triple-A and could get another shot before the season is over. Much like Jackson Holliday, his teammate who also struggled in his first MLB shot, Mayo is worth hanging onto this season in case he is promoted once again. Sometimes a bit of the pressure is removed in the second go-around in the majors for top prospects and that could be the case for Mayo. The talent is clearly there.

The Baltimore Orioles optioned rookie infielder Coby Mayo to Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday and recalled infielder Livan Soto from Norfolk in a corresponding move. Mayo finally recorded his first MLB hit in his seventh game on Wednesday night at Camden Yards against the Washington Nationals, but for now he'll head back to the farm to continue his development. The team's No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, had an opportunity for regular playing time at third base in Baltimore with Jordan Westburg out with a fractured hand, but he wasn't able to take advantage, going 1-for-17 (.059) with three walks and 10 strikeouts in his first 20 big-league plate appearances. The 22-year-old still has a lot of long-term fantasy upside and should return when rosters expand in September, but for now, veteran Ramon Urias will handle most of the starts at third for the O's.

During this span, Mayo has made only five starts as Ramon Urias has begun to see the majority of starts at the hot corner. However, at Triple-A this season, Mayo showcased his elite potential by posting a stellar .301/.375/.586 line with 20 long balls and 61 RBI. Given his current production at the majors and that he has begun to ride pine quite often, he could be sent back to Norfolk to get himself back on track. This minor slump does open the door for a potential buy-low window in dynasty formats as well. Redraft managers should continue to monitor the Baltimore lineup closely going forward.

Baltimore Orioles infield prospect Coby Mayo is out of the team's starting lineup yet again for Friday's series opener on the road in Tampa against the division-rival Rays. Mayo, the team's No. 3 prospect per MLB Pipeline, was expected to see more playing time than this when Jordan Westburg went down with a fractured hand. The 22-year-old has gone hitless in 13 at-bats with eight strikeouts in his first five games, though, and has been on the bench in three of the last four contests as a result. Veteran Ramon Urias will make another start at the hot corner and hit eighth on Friday against Rays right-hander Zack Littell. Mayo will surely get more chances with both Westburg and Jorge Mateo (elbow) on the IL, but he's going to have to show some life against big-league pitching if he wants to gain a playing-time advantage over the light-hitting Urias.
