St. Louis Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley blew a save opportunity in Saturday's 6-5 win over the Dodgers. Helsley came on in the bottom of the ninth with the Cardinals up 5-3, but the 29-year-old allowed a home run to Mookie Betts and, after getting Shohei Ohtani to strike out, three straight singles to knot the game at five runs apiece. It was the first regular season appearance in 2024 for Helsley, so certainly not the way he wanted to get things started, but there should be brighter days ahead for the Cards' closer. The righty had a 2.45 ERA and saved 14 games for St. Louis last season and should be a top option at closer in fantasy leagues in 2024. It's worth noting that Giovanny Gallegos picked up the save in the tenth inning and would presumably be in line for the role if Helsley continued to falter.

St. Louis Cardinals reliever Giovanny Gallegos recorded the save in Saturday's 6-5 win over the Dodgers. The 32-year-old came on in the tenth after closer Ryan Helsley allowed two runs in the ninth, knotting the game at five runs apiece. The Cardinals scored one in the top of the tenth and brought Gallegos on to close it out. Despite striking out the first two batters he faced, it wasn't without suspense though. With a runner starting on second base in extra innings, Gallegos gave up an infield single to the third batter and walked the next to load the bases. The righty finally got Shohei Ohtani to pop out to end the game. One blown save wouldn't be enough the wrest the closer job from Helsley, but if he continued to falter it would be Gallegos that is next in line for save chances.

San Francisco Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee hit the first home run of his MLB career in Saturday's 9-6 win over the Padres. It was part of a six-run eighth-inning outburst for the Giants. Lee also had a sacrifice fly, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. The 25-year-old has now hit safely in the first three games of the season, batting .333 (4-for-12) with four RBI and one run scored. Hitting atop the San Francisco lineup and getting on base plenty should prove fruitful for the former KBO star, especially with the power the Giants have been putting up behind him to start the year. He's surprisingly rostered in just 69% of leagues, so managers in need of help at the outfield position should consider picking him up.

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. homered in his third straight game in Saturday's 9-4 loss to the Rockies. He also belted a double, going 2-for-4 with a walk, two RBI, and a run scored in the contest. The 30-year-old is now 6-for-13 (.462) to begin the year, with eight RBI and five runs scored. Last season Gurriel had the lowest batting average of his career (.261), but had the highest Contact% of his career (83.5%) and with a BABIP of .282 (the first time in his career it was below .300) it appears his low BA was a product of bad luck. Nevertheless, he had 24 home runs and 82 RBI last season, both of which appear to be repeatable in 2024, and combine that with a rebound in BA, Gurriel has all of the makings of a value pick primed to outperform their ADP.

Boston Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen was unavailable to pitch in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Mariners due to back tightness. Instead, the team turned to Joely Rodriguez and Justin Slaten in the bottom of the tenth in an attempt to preserve the win after the Sox scored two in the top of the inning, but the two pitchers combined to allow three hits, three runs, and a walk-off win for Seattle. Jansen dealt with the same injury in the spring but was able to pitch on Thursday when the Red Sox beat the Mariners 6-4, however, he woke up Friday and his back was tight. While the blown game is not ideal for the Red Sox, hopefully Jansen just needs some rest and he'll be back out there soon, however, fantasy managers will want to keep an eye on this. Veteran RHP Chris Martin would be next in line in the event of a prolonged absence.
