Devin Williams Notches His Fifth Save In 2024

Milwaukee Brewers closer Devin Williams earned his fifth save of the season as his team beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2. Williams allowed two hits and struck out the side in the ninth inning. Williams, who missed most of the season recovering from a back injury, has not missed a beat since returning at the end of July. In eight games (8 IP), he has a 1.13 ERA, a 0.88 WHIP, 14 K, and is 5-for-5 in save opportunities. He looks like he's back to his old self and has regained his title as one of the game's best relief pitchers.

Frankie Montas Pitches Seven Shutout Innings In Win

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Frankie Montas (6-8) pitched a gem on Tuesday as his team beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2. Across seven innings, Montas gave up one hit, walked one, and struck out three. The nine-year MLB vet has had an up-and-down season (4.57 ERA in 23 starts) but has been much better since being traded to the Brewers in late July. In four starts (21 IP) with his new team, he is (2-0) with a 2.57 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. Montas will get another chance to keep his run going against Oakland on Saturday.

James McCann Homers, Logs Three RBI On Tuesday

Baltimore Orioles catcher James McCann went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and three total RBI on Tuesday as the O's beat the New York Mets 9-5. Serving primarily as the team's backup catcher, McCann has had an up-and-down season in 2024 after dealing with multiple injuries (left ankle and oblique sprains). In 53 games (168 at-bats), he is slashing .226/.277/.339 with four homers and 19 RBI. At this point in the season, McCann does not have much fantasy value -; he may only possibly serve as a streamer in deep leagues.

Matt Carpenter Homers In First Game Back From Injury

St. Louis Cardinals designated hitter Matt Carpenter (back) was responsible for his team's only runs of Tuesday's ballgame, as the Cards lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2. Carpenter came on as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning, hitting a clutch two-run homer off Nick Mears. This was Carpenter's first game back after being activated off the 10-day injured list. Carpenter, who spent the first 11 seasons of his career with the Cardinals before leaving and then returning, will hope to provide an offensive boost to the team's lineup down the stretch.

Joey Estes Pitches Well In Loss

Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Joey Estes suffered a tough loss on Tuesday versus the Tampa Bay Rays. Estes earned a quality start with 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball. He also allowed three hits, one walk and struck out five on the evening. Unfortunately for Estes, one of those hits was a solo home run to Jose Siri and that would help the Rays win 1-0. Despite the loss, Estes performed very well in this outing. Estes is now 5-6 on the season with a 4.44 ERA in 18 games (17 starts), but has performed better in August with a 3.00 ERA in four starts. Despite his recent success, he doesn't offer much in the strikeout or win department, making him nothing more than a streamer in very favorable matchups. With his next start versus the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday, Estes can be avoided.
