Victor Vodnik Dealing With Shoulder Soreness

Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black confirmed that right-handed reliever Victor Vodnik (shoulder) experienced soreness in his shoulder and was shut down in his warmups on Tuesday night during the contest against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park. That led to the decision to go with right-hander Angel Chivilli to close out the game. Chivilli responded by recording his first career save in the 3-1 victory, allowing a hit, walking one and striking out one in his inning of work. Vodnik will be evaluated by the medical staff over the next few days but could require a trip to the injured list, so fantasy managers in deeper leagues that are desperate for saves may want to run to the waiver wire and grab Chivilli. The 22-year-old will likely be Colorado's go-to guy for saves for as long as Vodnik is out. Justin Lawrence might also be in the mix, but Black didn't hesitate to go to Chivilli in this situation.

Jared Jones Fans 10 In Rehab Start

Pittsburgh Pirates rookie right-hander Jared Jones (lat) was impressive in his latest minor-league rehab start for Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, tossing five shutout innings while giving up only one hit, walking one and striking out 10. Jones looked to be in midseason form, especially with his fastball, which topped out near 100 mph. The 23-year-old is fully expected to come off the 15-day injured list to make his next start in the big leagues after this impressive performance. Jones hasn't pitched in the big leagues since July 3, and the Pirates weren't in any rush to bring him back, especially after a rough recent stretch that has really hurt their chances of getting into the postseason. Although Jones won't have much time to make a difference for fantasy managers to close out his rookie year, he shouldn't be ignored in mixed leagues after fanning 26.4% of the batters he faced in his first 16 MLB starts earlier this year.

Reynaldo Lopez Fans 10 In Tuesday's Return From Injured List

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Reynaldo Lopez (forearm) pitched well in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Phillies. Lopez, who had been on the injured list for the last three weeks with right forearm inflammation, pitched five innings of one-run ball, allowing five hits and a walk with 10 strikeouts on 90 pitches. It was encouraging to see the 30-year-old pick up right where he left before getting hurt. He now owns a 7-4 record with a 2.05 ERA, a 9.19 K/9 rate, and a 3.12 BB/9 rate in 20 starts and 109 2/3 IP. He will draw a favorable matchup in his next start against the Nationals.

Zack Wheeler Takes Tough Loss Tuesday

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler pitched well but fell to 12-5 in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Braves. Wheeler pitched six innings, allowing two runs on six hits (including a solo home run) and no walks with eight strikeouts. However, Reynaldo Lopez (forearm) held the Phillies in check in his return from the injured list. The 34-year-old has once again been a reliable high-end fantasy starter with a 2.73 ERA, a 9.89 K/9 rate, and a 2.50 BB/9 rate in 25 starts and 154 2/3 IP. In his next start, he will face a tough matchup at the Royals, but fantasy managers have no reason to avoid him.

Mitch Keller Bounces Back In Tuesday's Win

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Mitch Keller was stellar in Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Rangers. Keller pitched seven innings, allowing just three hits and no walks with nine strikeouts. This was a welcome outing for the Pirates and fantasy managers, as Keller had allowed a combined 15 earned runs in his previous two starts. His performance has fluctuated at times, but the 28-year-old is now 11-7 with a 3.76 ERA, an 8.13 K/9 rate, and a 2.43 BB/9 rate in 25 starts and 148 1/3 IP. His next start is slated to be a decent matchup against the Cubs. Hopefully, he can string together another solid outing.
