Alex Cobb Strikes Out Five In Latest Rehab Start

Cleveland Guardians right-hander Alex Cobb (hip, finger, shoulder) made his latest minor-league rehab start for Triple-A Columbus on Saturday and allowed an earned run on three hits while walking two and striking out five in 4 2/3 innings of work. This was Cobb's seventh rehab start and first with Cleveland since being acquired at last week's trade deadline from the San Francisco Giants. The veteran hurler had offseason hip surgery and then suffered setbacks with his shoulder and finger (blister), which have kept him from making a start in the big leagues in 2024. Cobb threw 69 pitches on Saturday and touched 94.9 mph with his fastball, so he's definitely on the cusp of joining the Guards' rotation. He doesn't have much strikeout upside, but Cobb could be a useful deep-league fantasy streamer for Cleveland. His debut could come this weekend against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Michael King Set To Start On Wednesday

San Diego Padres right-hander Michael King (calf) is listed as the team's starting pitcher for their contest in Pittsburgh on Wednesday against the Pirates. King had his last turn through the starting rotation skipped due to left-calf soreness after he was hit by a line drive. The 29-year-old appears good to go now, though, and will slot back in on Wednesday. King's last start came on July 27 against the Baltimore Orioles, when he allowed only two earned runs with nine strikeouts and two walks in 6 1/3 innings for his ninth win of 2024. He has had a quality start in four of his last five outings for the Friars and has been useful in most fantasy leagues in his first year in SD with a 3.26 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 144 K's in 124 1/3 frames over his 22 outings (21 starts). The Pirates have the fourth-lowest team OPS in baseball, so King should be thrown back into starting lineups when he toes the rubber on Wednesday.

Ky Bush To Make Major-League Debut For White Sox On Monday

The Chicago White Sox will call up left-handed pitching prospect Ky Bush from Triple-A Charlotte on Monday to make his major-league debut against the Oakland Athletics, according to sources. Bush was acquired from the Los Angeles Angels with catcher Edgar Quero in the trade for Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez last year. Bush was promoted to Charlotte in early July and will now get his first call to the big leagues. The 24-year-old southpaw made only four appearances (two starts) at Triple-A, allowed 13 earned runs while walking 10 and striking out 16 in 19 innings, so even though the matchup is a good one in his big-league debut, Bush will be a pretty risky fantasy streamer in his first start in the majors. Per MLB Pipeline, Bush is Chicago's No. 17 prospect. The 6-foot-6, 250-pounder could get some run in the rotation to close out the year for the worst team in baseball.

Xavier Isaac Hits First Double-A Homer

Tampa Bay Rays first base prospect Xavier Isaac connected for his first home run at Double-A Montgomery on Sunday. In his third game for the Biscuits, Isaac went 2-for-5 with the round-tripper. The Rays' No. 3 prospect has 16 homers and 65 RBI while hitting .290 with 14 stolen bases. That kind of five-category production is rare for a first baseman and Isaac is doing all of that at just 20 years old. The Rays may have found a gem in Isaac and he profiles as one of the top first-base prospects at the position. His complete hitting repertoire makes him a potential future fantasy stud.

Edgar Quero Not Slowing Down At Triple-A

Chicago White Sox catcher prospect Edgar Quero continued his strong showing since his promotion to Triple-A with a home run on Sunday for Charlotte. The White Sox' No. 3 prospect has had a breakout season and has shown no signs of slowing down since jumping a level to Triple-A. He has three homers and 14 RBI with a .305 batting average and .948 OPS in 17 games for Charlotte. Overall, the talented backstop is hitting .280 with 15 homers and 67 RBI across two levels this season. The 21-year-old looks to be the catcher of the future for the White Sox and his future in Chicago may not be far off. Quero is one of the best catcher prospects out there.
