Detroit Tigers right-hander Alex Cobb (hip) completed a bullpen session on Tuesday and was scheduled to start a minor-league rehab assignment with High-A West Michigan, according to the Detroit News' Chris McCosky. Cobb is finally ready to pitch in actual games after battling right-hip inflammation since the start of spring training back in February. Even if the 37-year-old veteran doesn't experience any setbacks as he begins to ramp up, he's not expected back until at least late June. And when Cobb is activated from the injured list, he won't be guaranteed a starting-rotation spot with the first-place Tigers. The former fourth-rounder by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2006 was a first-time All-Star in 2023 with the San Francisco Giants but made just three starts for the Cleveland Guardians in 2024 and won't have much fantasy upside if he does start games for the Tigers in 2025.

Detroit Tigers right-hander Alex Cobb (hip) is scheduled to receive a series of injections to help treat the remaining inflammation in his right hip, according to MLive's Evan Woodbery. The good news is that Cobb continues to play catch on a daily basis. The bad news is that he continues to deal with inflammation in his bum right hip, and there remains no timetable for his potential return to the Tigers. The 37-year-old veteran's hip has been bothering him since the start of spring training, and he's been on the injured list since Opening Day. He initially received an epidural injection in his hip in late February, which apparently didn't do much. At this point in time since Cobb hasn't returned to the mound, it seems likely that we won't see him until after the mid-July All-Star break. The oft-injured hurler was a first-time All-Star in 2023 with the Giants but made just three starts in 2024 with Cleveland due to injuries.

Detroit Tigers right-handed pitcher Alex Cobb (hip) looked uncomfortable when covering first base on a groundball, according to Chris McCosky. Cobb is working his way back from hip surgery and appeared to be in pain during his most recent bullpen session. McCosky noted that the 37-year-old looked fine on the mound but not so much when moving to first base. The veteran has been sidelined since February. He is currently on the 15-day injured list, but given his slow progress, the Tigers will likely opt to shift him to the 60-day injured list. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on his status as he slowly continues to increase his workload. Last summer, Cobb was limited by injuries as well, tossing just 16 1/3 innings of work. When he does return, he could hold value in deeper 15+ team formats as a back-end option in the starting rotation.
