Camilo Doval Notches 21st Save Of Season Monday

San Francisco Giants closer Camilo Doval picked up his 21st save of the season in convincing fashion in a 4-1 victory over the Nationals. Doval came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by three and shut the door by striking out the side. The 27-year-old has converted 21 of 25 save opportunities this season and has provided a strong 12.00 K/9 rate. However, his 4.29 ERA is higher than fantasy managers would like to see, and it could be in part due to his bloated 5.57 BB/9 rate. Job security and high-end strikeout upside should keep Doval in the conversation as a higher-end fantasy option, but he will remain in just the mid-hier tier of options if his walk issues continue to plague him.

Tyler Fitzgerald Homers In Second Consecutive Game Monday

San Francisco Giants shortstop/outfielder Tyler Fitzgerald continued to provide plenty of power in Monday's 4-1 win over the Nationals. Fitzgerald went 2-for-4 with a single and a leadoff homer. The 26-year-old got things started for the Giants, jumping on a Patrick Corbin fastball and depositing it in the left-field seats for his 12th long ball of the season. Fitzgerald had an impressive HR streak in July and has now homered in back-to-back games and three of his last four. He is now slashing .314/.373/.650 with 29 runs scored, 24 RBI, and seven stolen bases in just 153 plate appearances. It seems unlikely that he will sustain this rate of high offensive production, but Fitzgerald is providing elite fantasy output right now.

Matt Chapman Hits 18th Homer Of Season Monday

San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman continued his strong offensive August in Monday's 4-1 win over the Nationals. Chapman went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run and a strikeout. The 31-year-old obliterated a third-inning Patrick Corbin breaking ball deep into the left-field seats for his 18th long ball of the season. Chapman has already surpassed his HR total from last season and is batting .353 with three HR in 17 August at-bats. He has also cut his strikeout rate down to a respectable 23.9% and the Giants have started hitting better lately as a team, so he could be a fantasy catalyst for the month of August.

Griffin Jax Earns Eighth Save Of Season Monday

Minnesota Twins relief pitcher Griffin Jax picked up his eighth save of the season in Monday's 3-0 win over the Cubs. Jax came on to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by three. He got the first out on a ground-out, allowed a single, and got the final two outs on a strikeout and another ground-out. Jhoan Duran pitched the eighth inning in this one, and while he is considered the fantasy arm to roster, he has only seen four more save opportunities this season than Jax. Jax has pitched well, converting eight of 12 save opportunities with 17 holds to go with a 2.01 ERA, an 11.86 K/9 rate, and a 2.19 BB/9 rate. He is currently rostered in 45% of leagues, so he may still be out there in deeper roto leagues.

David Festa Fans Nine In Monday's Win

Minnesota Twins rookie starting pitcher David Festa improved to 2-2 in Monday's 3-0 win over the Cubs. Festa pitched five innings, allowing just two hits and two walks with nine strikeouts. The 24-year-old has made five appearances with the Twins this season, four of them starts and owns a 5.55 ERA with an 11.10 K/9 rate and a 2.22 BB/9 rate in 24 1/3 IP. Festa is the Twins' top pitching prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and showed high strikeout potential with Triple-A St. Paul, although he did struggle a bit with home runs. Both his strikeout upside and HR issues have carried over in his limited big-league sample size. His next start is scheduled to be a tough one against the Guardians. Fantasy managers may want to consider sitting him if they can.
