Tyler Fitzgerald Activated and Starting on Friday

The San Francisco Giants announced on Friday that they activated infielder Tyler Fitzgerald (ribs) from the 10-day injured list and optioned infielder Brett Wisely to Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move. Fitzgerald is right back in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the visiting Athletics and left-hander JP Sears, playing second base and batting ninth. The 27-year-old is making his return after landing on the IL earlier this month with a fractured left rib. In three rehab games with Sacramento, he went 3-for-10 at the plate with three RBI. Fitzgerald has hit .333 with a .666 OPS in just six career at-bats against Sears. Given his spot at the bottom of the batting order, he won't be a recommended DFS target, especially in his first game back. The third-year big-leaguer returns to a .284/.341/.432 slash line with two homers, seven RBI and five steals in 25 games played.

Tyler Fitzgerald, Casey Schmitt Starting Rehab Assignments On Tuesday

San Francisco Giants infielders Tyler Fitzgerald (rib) and Casey Schmitt (oblique) are both starting their minor-league rehab assignments with Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, according to MLB.com's Justice delos Santos. Fitzgerald is at second base and is batting leadoff, while Schmitt is at first base and hitting second for the River Cats. Fitzgerald is recovering from a fractured left rib, but barring setbacks, both infielders could rejoin the major-league roster in San Francisco by later this week or the weekend. The 27-year-old Fitzgerald is more fantasy relevant, as he'll likely return to regular playing time at the keystone with the Giants when he returns from the injured list. He hit .280 in 96 games a year ago with 15 home runs and 17 stolen bases, making him attractive as a middle-infield option for fantasy managers in deep-mixed leagues.

Tyler Fitzgerald, Casey Schmitt Could Start Rehab Assignments On Tuesday

The San Francisco Giants say that infielders Tyler Fitzgerald (rib) and Casey Schmitt (oblique) could start their minor-league rehab assignments on Tuesday. Fitzgerald is rehabbing from a fractured left rib that he suffered in the middle of April, while Schmitt is more than three weeks removed from a Grade 2 oblique strain. Depending on how both players fare while on their rehab assignments, they could rejoin the big-league roster by this weekend or early next week. Of the two, Fitzgerald is the more attractive fantasy asset as a regular at second base for the Giants when he's healthy. The 27-year-old surprised with intriguing power and speed in 96 games in 2024 and was hitting a solid .284/.341/.432 with two long balls, seven RBI, 14 runs scored and five steals in 25 games before his injury. Fantasy managers looking for middle-infield help in deep-mixed leagues might want to snag Fitzgerald now if he's available.
