San Francisco Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey said that the team is looking for a shortstop this offseason. Tyler Fitzgerald impressed at the 6 in his rookie season, but he can also play multiple positions. Meanwhile, the Giants hope that moving infielder Marco Luciano to the outfield will help him unlock his true potential offensively. If Fitzgerald continues to hit like he did this year, the Giants will find a place for him in their everyday lineup. In 96 games after debuting in 10 games in 2023, Fitzgerald hit a strong .280/.334/.497 with an .831 OPS, 15 home runs, 34 RBI, 17 steals and 53 runs scored. Over a full season, that kind of production will be very attractive in all fantasy leagues. Luciano has struggled defensively up the middle and also hit just .211/.259/.303 with no homers and 28 K's in 76 at-bats in 27 games in 2024.
San Francisco Giants outfielder/infielder Tyler Fitzgerald (back) is not in Saturday's lineup as the Giants continue a three-game set with the San Diego Padres. The 26-year-old left Thursday's game early with lower-back tightness and will need at least another day to rest. As a result, this opens up the keystone for 23-year-old Marco Luciano. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to Sunday's lineup, as Fitzgerald may be cleared to return to game action. Since the start of the month, Fitzgerald has held a strong .333/.385/.472 line with five doubles and one swiped bag. Luciano holds a mere .136 average since rejoining the big leagues in September and should be left out of your DFS lineups while facing Joe Musgrove.
San Francisco Giants rookie outfielder/shortstop Tyler Fitzgerald (back) underwent an MRI exam on his lower back that showed no structural damage, so the team is considering him day-to-day. Fitzgerald unexpectedly is out of the team's starting lineup for Friday's game at Oracle Park versus the visiting division-rival San Diego Padres. The 26-year-old felt tightness in his lower back on Thursday and was removed from the contest early against the Milwaukee Brewers. It doesn't sound like too serious of an injury, though, so fantasy managers will be hoping to get him back in the lineup against the Padres later this weekend. Fitzgerald has been a savior off the waiver wire this year, as he's hit .296 (80-for-270) with 14 homers, 31 RBI and 17 steals in 84 games after playing in just 10 games in 2023. Brett Wisely is at short on Friday and is hitting eighth against Padres right-hander Dylan Cease.
