Players who are in the top dozen for Route DVOA but not for Route DYAR because they have fewer routes include Josh Downs, Tee Higgins, and Khalil Shakir. Here’s a list of the lowest wide receivers in Route DYAR this season, among wideouts with a minimum of 50 targets or 300 routes:

Jaxon Smith-Njigba was surprisingly down on this list when we ran it after Week 7, and he’s improved dramatically since then. He’s now 28th in the league with 195 Route DYAR. A number of the worst receivers in Route DYAR don’t appear on this table because they have not run enough routes to qualify. The actual worst Route DYAR belongs to Jahan Dotson at -237 but he only has 262 routes. Also very low are Patriots rookie Ja’Lynn Polk, his college teammate Jalen McMillan of the Buccaneers, Mason Tipton of the Saints, and Jonathan Mingo, recently traded from the Panthers to the Cowboys. We can use z-scores to look at which receivers look better with the new Route metrics compared to the old style of receiving DVOA. Receivers who come out better include Nacua, Nabers, Cooper Kupp, Downs, Diontae Johnson, and Dontayvion Wicks. Receivers who come out worse include Iosivas, Alec Pierce, Demarcus Robinson, Rashod Bateman, Tyler Lockett, and Jayden Reed. De’Von Achane is way ahead of the rest of the running backs in Route DYAR, and only David Montgomery comes close to him in Route DVOA. Other running backs who come out with a lot of value include Brian Robinson Jr., Alvin Kamara, and Justice Hill, plus both Rachaad White and Bucky Irving from Tampa Bay. At the bottom of the values for running backs are Chuba Hubbard, Kyren Williams, and Jonathan Taylor. Brock Bowers leads all tight ends in Route DYAR, followed by Trey McBride, George Kittle (who leads in DVOA), Jonnu Smith, and Mark Andrews. The first four tight ends are over 300 Route DYAR, with Andrews at 248 and no other tight end above 200. At the bottom of the tight end values you will find Tyler Conklin, Giants rookie Theo Johnson, Tommy Tremble, and Kylen Granson. Here’s a link to a set of Google Sheets with full data for qualifying wide receivers, tight ends, and running backs. Hopefully this time I remembered how to make sure the sheets were open for anybody with the link to view them!
