Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) said he's still dealing with his ankle sprain and isn't likely to practice for the second straight day on Thursday. It's not a serious injury, but there is still a lot of uncertainty around his availability for Sunday's contest against the division-rival Jacksonville Jaguars. Two DNPs in a row is bad news for Taylor's fantasy managers leading into Week 5. If the 25-year-old is unable to get back on the practice field by Friday, he seems unlikely to be ready to play against the Jaguars this weekend. The good news, though, is that Taylor's ankle injury doesn't appear to be a multi-week issue, and it's definitely not as severe as the ankle issue that he dealt with in 2022. Taylor's injury has made Trey Sermon a popular waiver-wire pickup this week, as he'll operate as Indy's lead back on Sunday if Taylor is inactive.
Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) will not practice on Wednesday. Taylor suffered a high-ankle sprain in the Week 4 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, although his high-ankle sprain is considered relatively mild. Still, Taylor's status for the Week 5 contest this Sunday versus the division-rival Jacksonville Jaguars is firmly up in the air, which has made backup Trey Sermon a popular speculative waiver-wire pickup this week. The 25-year-old Taylor has two more days to get back on the practice field, but as of right now, fantasy managers need to have a backup plan in place in case he doesn't get the green light to suit up. In addition to Sermon, Tyler Goodson would also have an elevated role in Indy's backfield if Taylor cannot play in Week 5. The good news is that Taylor's injury doesn't appear serious enough to land him on Injured Reserve, which would keep him out for at least four games.
Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen said that the team is not considering placing running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) on short-term Injured Reserve after he suffered a high-ankle sprain in the Week 4 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. High-ankle sprains can keep players out for up to a month, but Taylor apparently suffered a "mild" high-ankle sprain on Sunday. If the 25-year-old went on IR, he'd have to miss at least four games. It's good news overall for the Colts and JT's fantasy managers, but it doesn't mean he won't miss time, starting with the Week 5 contest this weekend against the winless Jacksonville Jaguars. We'll have a better idea about his status later this week, but fantasy managers should be formulating backup plans now in case he cannot play in Week 5. Trey Sermon would become the starter in the backfield if Taylor misses any time, with Tyler Goodson also seeing an elevated role for Indy.
