Today’s Best NHL Bets

New York Islanders ML

(-110, DraftKings Sportsbook/FanDuel Sportsbook/BetMGM, 1.65 units to win 1.5 units)

The Islanders were coming into last week with a ton of momentum, but an untimely injury to Ilya Sorokin led to them being forced to play Marcus Hogberg three straight games (all losses). Sorokin made his return Sunday against the Devils and came away with a huge shutout. The problem here is that the Islanders have nothing to play for except pride. Hogberg’s three losses have eliminated the team from the playoffs. Nonetheless, they might have more to play for than the Capitals, who have been coasting since Alex Ovechkin broke Wayne Gretzky’s goal record. I know Jet Greaves has been wildly overrated and overlooked by his own team for years now, but a team of Washington’s caliber should not be scoring just one goal in 120 minutes against a goalie that was in the AHL for 95% of the season.

Toronto Maple Leafs ML

Toronto Maple Leafs -1.5

The Leafs and Sabres both don’t have much to play for, but it should certainly be noted that Tuesday will feature Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen in net for the Sabres, who has the second-worst GSAA (goals saved above average) in the NHL since March 1 (-12.54 GSAA). The Leafs have been on a sensational run over the last few weeks and have not allowed more than two goals in seven of their last eight games. Somehow, their defense has been a bigger catalyst to their winning streak than their offense through this incredible run, and I think a matchup against a weak goaltender like Luukkonen puts them in a great position to continue their great run in Buffalo.
