Anthony Richardson In Pads Again Friday, Joe Flacco Taking First-Team Reps

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (abdomen, oblique) is in pads and practicing for the third time this week on Friday. However, The Athletic's James Boyd reports that veteran Joe Flacco is taking most, if not all, of the first-team repetitions in practice as Richardson stands behind Flacco to watch him throw. Richardson was relieved by Flacco in the Week 4 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers and was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday. The 22-year-old's injury isn't believed to be serious, but perhaps they let Flacco make the Week 5 start against the division-rival Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday. Either way, Richardson has fallen to low-end QB1/high-end QB2 territory after a disappointing start to his sophomore season in which he leads the league with six interceptions thrown. Check back for Richardson's final Week 5 status going into Sunday's game. The Colts will also be without star running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) this week.

Jonathan Taylor Officially Ruled Out For Week 5

The Indianapolis Colts officially ruled out running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) for the Week 5 game this weekend against the division-rival Jacksonville Jaguars. Things were trending this way after Taylor suffered what was described as a minor right high-ankle sprain in the Week 4 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 25-year-old isn't going on Injured Reserve but he's out for this week and could be up in the air to face the division-rival Tennessee Titans in Week 6. It's a big blow for Indy's offense, which could also be without quarterback Anthony Richardson (abdomen, oblique) against Jacksonville. With Taylor out, Trey Sermon is expected to be the Colts' primary back in Week 5, giving him RB2/3 plug-and-play fantasy appeal off the waiver wire if you have Taylor or are desperate for some RB help this week. In addition to Sermon having a bigger role, Tyler Goodson will also see more work as the backup.

Jonathan Taylor "Likely Misses Time" With Ankle Injury

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) has not practiced at all yet this week as he's dealing with what everyone is calling a "mild high-ankle sprain." The star back injured his ankle against the Pittsburgh Steelers in their Week 4 matchup, and Ian Rapoport believes that he's "likely to miss some time" moving forward. He noted that Taylor suiting up for their Week 5 game would be a big surprise. His status past this week will be something to monitor, especially since they don't have a bye week for added rest until Week 14. Trey Sermon is the next man up with Tyler Goodson ready to take some snaps in relief.

Anthony Richardson Participating In Thursday's Practice

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (oblique) logged a limited practice on Wednesday with an oblique injury, and he is back on the field for Thursday's practice session. The 22-year-old exited the Week 4 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers twice before ultimately being ruled out, but it appears he could start the Week 5 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. After an overall QB4 finish in Week 1, Richardson has failed to finish among the top 20 quarterbacks in each of the last three weeks. His start to the season is not what fantasy managers expected, but if he plays in Week 5, he should be in a great spot for production. The Colts could be without Jonathan Taylor (ankle), and the Jaguars have allowed the most fantasy points per game to QBs through the first month of the new campaign. If he doesn't produce in this matchup, his rest-of-season outlook will become bleak. If Richardson cannot suit up, veteran Joe Flacco will get the start, and Colts wideouts Michael Pittman Jr. and Josh Downs will have higher ceilings.UPDATE: Richardson was limited for the second straight day on Thursday.

Jonathan Taylor Not Expecting To Practice On Thursday

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) said he's still dealing with his ankle sprain and isn't likely to practice for the second straight day on Thursday. It's not a serious injury, but there is still a lot of uncertainty around his availability for Sunday's contest against the division-rival Jacksonville Jaguars. Two DNPs in a row is bad news for Taylor's fantasy managers leading into Week 5. If the 25-year-old is unable to get back on the practice field by Friday, he seems unlikely to be ready to play against the Jaguars this weekend. The good news, though, is that Taylor's ankle injury doesn't appear to be a multi-week issue, and it's definitely not as severe as the ankle issue that he dealt with in 2022. Taylor's injury has made Trey Sermon a popular waiver-wire pickup this week, as he'll operate as Indy's lead back on Sunday if Taylor is inactive.
