Anthony Richardson Should be Fine for Training Camp

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (shoulder) is expected to be ready for training camp at the end of July after getting a second opinion from Dr. Neal ElAttrache on his surgically-repaired right shoulder, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Rest and rehab was prescribed for Richardson, and he won't have to go under the knife again as he prepares to continue the QB competition with Daniel Jones. The 23-year-old former first-rounder missed OTAs and minicamp with right-shoulder inflammation, but he should be back on the field this summer as he looks to win the starting gig under center. Richardson is going to need to stay healthy and improve as a passer in order to beat out Jones, and if he does, his elite rushing prowess will make him a risk/reward QB2 with upside in fantasy drafts this fall.

Colts Not Putting a Timetable on Anthony Richardson's Return

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (shoulder) was shut down on May 29 after an "aggravation" to the AC joint in his surgically-repaired right shoulder and will be out indefinitely, according to head coach Shane Steichen. It's bad news for the former first-rounder after he suffered a severe AC joint sprain in October of 2023 in his rookie season that required season-ending surgery. The Athletic's James Boyd writes that the odds of Richardson one day becoming the face of the Colts franchise are dwindling by the day. "We'll see when he comes back. Not going to put a timetable for training camp on it, but when he does come back, we'll ease him into throwing, and we'll go from there," Steichen said. Although nothing will be decided this year, Richardson's stock is falling drastically, increasing Daniel Jones' odds of winning the starting gig under center.

Anthony Richardson to Get Another Opinion on his Shoulder

SI.com's Albert Breer reports that Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (shoulder), who was shut down on the second day of organized team activities last week, will seek another opinion on his troublesome right shoulder with Dr. Neal ElAttrache this week. ElAttrache is the one who did Richardson's AC-joint surgery in 2023. The Colts said that the 23-year-old former first-rounder's shoulder was structurally sound, but the fact that he's visiting with the same doctor that did his surgery isn't good news, and he'll also miss mandatory minicamp this week. There's currently no timetable for Richardson's return, and it's fair to wonder if he'll even be ready for the start of training camp at the end of July. Richardson could still be ready for Week 1 this fall, but right now, his injury increases the chances that Daniel Jones will open the 2025 season as Indy's starting QB.

No Structural Damage to Anthony Richardson's Shoulder

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (shoulder) isn't dealing with any structural damage to his surgically-repaired right shoulder after he recently reported soreness in the same arm that he had surgery on in 2023 to fix his AC joint. Richardson went hard this offseason in terms of throwing the football and reported soreness at organized team activities, causing the Colts to shut him down through next week's mandatory minicamp. For now, the former first-rounder will rest up, and he fully expects to be ready for training camp at the end of July. This doesn't mean Richardson can't still win the QB battle with Daniel Jones in camp, but it certainly doesn't help his chances and puts him behind the eight ball. Richardson has the higher fantasy ceiling than Jones for sure, but injuries and questions about him as a passer have really tanked his value going into 2025.

Anthony Richardson Expected to be Ready for Training Camp

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (shoulder) is reportedly dealing with inflammation in the surgically repaired AC joint in his right arm, and he's been recommended rest, according to CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones. The belief is the injury won't impact his availability for the start of training camp this summer. The 23-year-old former fourth overall pick's injury doesn't sound serious, but he's off to a bad start in the offseason competition with Daniel Jones and won't practice during mandatory minicamp next week. It's also an injury that cut short his rookie year in 2023. Richardson has elite rushing ability, which gives him a much higher fantasy ceiling than Jones, but he hasn't been able to stay healthy and still has plenty of developing to do as a passer. Nothing is decided yet, but Jones is gaining momentum because of this. The former Florida Gator is losing steam in dynasty/keeper formats.
