Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell has been removed from the injury report ahead of Tuesday's game against the Boston Celtics. The superstar guard received a rest day during Sunday's win over the Charlotte Hornets. The 28-year-old has been outstanding this season and received a much-deserved day off. Now, the undefeated Cavs head into a tough matchup against the Celtics and will definitely need Mitchell for that now. Ty Jerome will head back to the bench, so he won't have much streaming appeal with the second unit. Fantasy managers should feel comfortable getting Mitchell back in their lineups for Tuesday's contest.
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell (rest) will sit out Sunday's matchup against the Charlotte Hornets, marking his first missed game of the season. Mitchell has been a key contributor for the unbeaten Cavaliers, averaging 24.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists in 31.1 minutes per contest. Without him, Cleveland will look to Caris LeVert to potentially step into the starting lineup, while Darius Garland is expected to shoulder more of the offensive and playmaking load as the Cavaliers aim to extend their perfect start. Mitchell's next opportunity to return comes Tuesday against Boston.
According to Chris Fedor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Cavaliers still believe guard Donovan Mitchell will agree to a contract extension with the team. "We feel good about Donovan," said president of basketball operations Koby Altman, who recently flew out to Los Angeles with new head coach Kenny Atkinson to visit Mitchell. "He's really invested in what we're doing, and hopefully soon we'll have more of a decisive answer." The 27-year-old appeared in 55 games in 2023-24, averaging 26.6 points, 6.1 assists, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.8 steals. He's eligible to sign a four-year deal worth over $200 million. But regardless of what happens with his future in Cleveland, Mitchell is expected to remain at least a top-20 fantasy option. However, he is capable of cracking the top-10, although he'll need to stay healthy, which has been an issue.
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell doesn't appear to be going anywhere this offseason. A fresh report from NBA insider Shams Charania notes that the Cavaliers are "confident" about reaching a contract extension soon with Mitchell. Charania adds that the team is also in the "final stages" of deciding its new head coach. Mitchell has enjoyed two very productive campaigns as a Cavalier, averaging 27.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 1.6 steals. It has been suggested that his backcourt partner Darius Garland isn't interested in returning for next season if Mitchell sticks around, and it's going to be interesting to see how the situation pans out. Garland's exit would allow Mitchell to play an even more dominant role in Cleveland's play.
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell is one of the bigger dominoes in this coming offseason landscape. At first, there were hesitations and worries around the league that Mitchell would not stay in Cleveland. Now, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, there's a "league-wide expectation" that Mitchell and the Cavs are going to agree on an extension that could pay him up to $208 million. On top of that, Fischer reports that the team isn't looking to trade any of their core four players which includes Mitchell, Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen, and Evan Mobley.
