Anthony Davis Likely To Play Against Phoenix

Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis is expected to play in Sunday's preseason clash with the Suns. The 31-year-old didn't play on Friday night versus the Timberwolves to rest. However, he'll likely see limited action in his first exhibition of the year. Davis had a stellar 2023-24 campaign, averaging 24.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 2.3 blocks. He also logged a career-high 76 games. Although Davis' percentage from deep isn't the best, he still has plenty to offer fantasy managers in any format. As far as Sunday's contest is concerned, Davis' presence against Phoenix could mean less work for Jaxson Hayes, who had 14 points in 21 minutes with the starting lineup on Friday.

Dante Exum Could Require Surgery

Dallas Mavericks guard Dante Exum (hand) could end up missing an extended period of time. Exum suffered a severe right wrist injury that could require surgery. The Mavs are evaluating treatment options, but it seems likely that Exum is going to miss the beginning of the regular season. Exum figured to serve as a depth option behind Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic on the perimeter. Now, Spencer Dinwiddie, Quentin Grimes, and Jaden Hardy will likely absorb more playing time. The Mavs should give a timetable on Exum once they decide whether or not he'll have surgery.

Klay Thompson Ready For A New Chapter In Dallas

Dallas Mavericks guard/forward Klay Thompson is ready to start another chapter after spending his entire career in Golden State. "I'm excited for a whole new chapter of my career that has a chance to be so special," said Thompson to The Dallas Morning News. "I know we can do something special." Thompson's resume includes four NBA championships and five All-Star selections. Unfortunately, he is coming off a down year, averaging 17.9 points and 38.7% shooting from behind the arc. The 34-year-old also spent time coming off the bench, which caused friction with his previous coach, Steve Kerr. But Thompson should remain in the starting lineup all year, so he could have a bounce-back year as long as he stays healthy.

Mavericks Aim To Make Klay Thompson's Life "Easier"

Dallas Mavericks guard/forward Klay Thompson will look to reignite his career on a new squad, and the team hopes to make things "easier" on offense for him in Texas. "Obviously, the big addition was Klay," said Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban on the Roommates Show. "Just somebody who you have to face guard, who's going to make 40 percent (from three-point range), and we're hoping, you know, at Golden State, he had to always be on the move. They had that motion offense where he was always coming off screens and running. We don't do that, or not nearly as much, and sure, we'll run some of that action for him, but just standing in the corner, and standing in the wings, and just catch and shoot from Luka (Doncic and Ky (Kyrie Irving). Hopefully, his life is going to be a lot easier." Thompson faces a big adjustment in Dallas, and it will be interesting to see how things work out for him in his new surroundings.

Kyrie Irving "On Course" For Training Camp

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving (hand) remains "on course" to be ready for the start of training camp. The multi-time All-Star had a stellar year in 2023-24, averaging 25.6 points, 5.2 assists, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.3 steals. He also shot 41.1% from deep, one of the best marks of his career. Unfortunately, he suffered a broken left hand while training and underwent surgery in mid-July. While the addition of Klay Thompson might cause Irving to see few scoring opportunities, he could remain a potent fantasy producer for at least a few more seasons moving forward, assuming he can stay healthy and out of trouble.
