2024 Team Stats

San Francisco Giants outfielder Tyler Fitzgerald (back) said that his lower back started locking up on him before Thursday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers and got worse as the game went on. Fitzgerald will undergo imaging on Friday but isn't overly concerned and said he feels something like this every year. The 26-year-old was removed in the third inning on Thursday and should be considered day-to-day for now, although fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to be right back in action on Friday for a series opener against the division-rival San Diego Padres. After playing in just 10 games for a cup of coffee in San Fran in 2023, Fitzgerald has burst onto the scene in the big leagues this year, slashing .296/.350/.530 with an .880 OPS, 14 home runs, 31 RBI and 17 stolen bases in just 84 games to make him relevant in all fantasy formats.

San Francisco Giants shortstop Tyler Fitzgerald left Thursday's game with lower back tightness. Fitzgerald was removed defensively in the third inning, but the specific play on which the injury occurred is unknown. The 26-year-old breakout has enjoyed a stellar final three months that has seen him become a fantasy standout, but his status is now in jeopardy. An update should be available soon, but for now fantasy managers shouldn't panic. If he were to miss time, Brett Wisely and Marco Luciano would likely see more playing time. Neither are high-priority adds in any format.UPDATE:Fitzgerald told reporters post-game that his back tightened up on him before the game and got worse as the game went on. He said that he'll get imaging done but isn't concerned.

San Francisco Giants rookie right-hander Landen Roupp will toe the rubber for his first major-league start on Tuesday against the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field. Roupp has made 19 appearances out of the bullpen for the Giants in his first season in the majors in 2024 and has pitched to a 3.41 ERA (3.40 FIP) with a 1.36 WHIP, 33 strikeouts and 19 walks in 31 2/3 innings pitched. The 26-year-old went a season-high four innings out of the bullpen his last time out on Sept. 5 against the Arizona Diamondbacks, allowing no runs while walking two and striking out five. Roupp hasn't gone more than four innings in any of his outings with San Fran or at Triple-A Sacramento before his call-up, so fantasy managers should be looking to avoid the rookie as a streamer on Tuesday, especially against the first-place Brew Crew.

San Francisco Giants outfielder Grant McCray accounted for most of the Giants' offense out of the nine-hole in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Padres, going 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and five RBI in the contest. It was the second consecutive multi-hit effort for the 23-year-old and gave him five home runs in 19 games since being called up in August. He's now slashing .262/.294/.569 in 68 plate appearances and, for desperate managers, the former third-round draft pick has some speed too, collecting three steals in his short stint in the majors. With a 39.7% strikeout rate, however, he'll be hard to trust for fantasy as the wheels could come off at any moment.

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Robbie Ray (hamstring) is set to throw another simulated game on Saturday afternoon, according to MLB.com. The southpaw logged his first simulated game (two innings) last week and will now look to stretch out further on Saturday by tossing three frames. Ray hit the 15-day IL with a hamstring strain on August 27. If the 32-year-old progresses well, he may only require one rehab assignment before returning to the big leagues. Before the injury, Ray held a 4.70 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP across 30 2/3 innings of work this summer, as his 2024 campaign began much later due to undergoing Tommy John surgery last year. Ray could be worth stashing in deeper leagues as he should be able to log a handful of starts during the final weeks of the season and possess a high strikeout upside.
