Matt Chapman Going On Paternity List

San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman is headed to the paternity list on Tuesday, and the Giants will recall infielder Casey Schmitt from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move to join the team in Baltimore for their series against the Orioles. There was hope that Chapman's child might come next week when the Giants are in Arizona, where Chapman lives. With Gold Glove third baseman now out for probably the next three days, Brett Wisely will shift to the hot corner on Tuesday and bat ninth against Orioles right-hander Albert Suarez. Fantasy managers should expect the 31-year-old Chapman to be back for the series opener on Friday in Kansas City against the Royals. Wisely, who is hitting just .229/.271/.333 with three homers in 231 at-bats this year, is a weak DFD sleeper option at the bottom of San Fran's batting order on Tuesday.

Robbie Ray Hopes To Make At Least One More Start

San Francisco Giants left-hander Robbie Ray (hamstring) had his live batting practice session on Sept. 11 cut short after 42 pitches due to fatigue, but he's been playing catch and threw another bullpen session on Saturday. Ray said he still hopes to make at least one start for the Giants before the end of the regular season. The 32-year-old southpaw suffered a left-hamstring strain while facing the Seattle Mariners on Aug. 25 and was placed on the 15-day injured list on Aug. 27. Ray also missed the entire first half of the season while recovery from Tommy John surgery. He has fanned 43 in his 30 2/3 innings of work over his seven starts this year with the Giants, but he's also allowed 16 earned runs on 20 hits (six home runs surrendered). If Ray does make it back to San Fran's rotation to make one more start in 2024, he'll likely be a poor streaming option with a likely short leash.

Randy Rodriguez Throwing Bullpen Sessions

San Francisco Giants rookie right-hander Randy Rodriguez (elbow) had a 3.93 ERA over 33 major-league appearances this year before landing on the 15-day injured list on Aug. 15. Rodriguez was diagnosed with a flexor strain and was shut down for two weeks before resuming a throwing program on Sept. 3. He threw a 30-pitch bullpen session at Oracle Park on Sept. 12 and threw another bullpen on Sunday. As long as the 25-year-old doesn't suffer a setback as he builds himself back up, he has a shot to return to the Giants' big-league bullpen before the end of the 2024 season at the end of September. Rodriguez has appeared in 33 games (one start) in his first year in the big leagues and has gone 3-2 with a 3.93 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP and a 52:16 K:BB in his 50 1/3 innings pitched.

Tyler Fitzgerald Remains Out On Saturday

San Francisco Giants outfielder/infielder Tyler Fitzgerald (back) is not in Saturday's lineup as the Giants continue a three-game set with the San Diego Padres. The 26-year-old left Thursday's game early with lower-back tightness and will need at least another day to rest. As a result, this opens up the keystone for 23-year-old Marco Luciano. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to Sunday's lineup, as Fitzgerald may be cleared to return to game action. Since the start of the month, Fitzgerald has held a strong .333/.385/.472 line with five doubles and one swiped bag. Luciano holds a mere .136 average since rejoining the big leagues in September and should be left out of your DFS lineups while facing Joe Musgrove.

Tyler Fitzgerald Considered Day-To-Day, Not Playing On Friday

San Francisco Giants rookie outfielder/shortstop Tyler Fitzgerald (back) underwent an MRI exam on his lower back that showed no structural damage, so the team is considering him day-to-day. Fitzgerald unexpectedly is out of the team's starting lineup for Friday's game at Oracle Park versus the visiting division-rival San Diego Padres. The 26-year-old felt tightness in his lower back on Thursday and was removed from the contest early against the Milwaukee Brewers. It doesn't sound like too serious of an injury, though, so fantasy managers will be hoping to get him back in the lineup against the Padres later this weekend. Fitzgerald has been a savior off the waiver wire this year, as he's hit .296 (80-for-270) with 14 homers, 31 RBI and 17 steals in 84 games after playing in just 10 games in 2023. Brett Wisely is at short on Friday and is hitting eighth against Padres right-hander Dylan Cease.
