The Los Angeles Angels placed infielder Luis Rengifo (wrist) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to July 4) with right-wrist inflammation on Friday and selected the contract of infielder Keston Hiura from the minors in a corresponding move. The Angels also moved right-hander Andrew Wantz (elbow) to the 60-day IL. Rengifo injured his wrist on Wednesday against the A's and will now be out through the All-Star break in mid-July. It's a tough break for an already bad Angels team, as Rengifo has been their best hitter on the season. Given how well the 27-year-old has played in 2024, he deserves to be held onto in most fantasy leagues. Hiura was once a top prospect for the Brewers but flamed out with Milwaukee with too much swing and miss in his game. However, the right-handed power-hitting infielder batted .270/.346/.536 with 18 homers in 68 games at the Triple-A level this year and may be worth a look in AL-only leagues.
Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo's (wrist) X-rays showed no break in his right wrist after he was forced from the game early on Wednesday night against the division-rival Oakland Athletics. Rengifo will get an MRI exam on Friday and is out of the lineup on the Fourth of July on Thursday against Oakland. He'll avoid the injured list for now, but he's not out of the woods yet until his MRI results come back. Miguel Sano is starting at third and batting cleanup, while Brandon Drury is at second and hitting eighth on Thursday versus A's left-hander JP Sears. The 27-year-old Rengifo has been one of the bright spots for the Halos this year, so losing him for any amount of time would be a big blow. The Venezuelan infielder deserves to be stashed in fantasy leagues if he does go on the IL, as he's hitting a cool .315/.358/.442 with an .800 OPS, six homers, 25 RBI, 22 steals and 36 runs in 251 at-bats.
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Luis Rengifo (wrist) had pain in his wrist that caused him to leave in the middle of an at-bat in the ninth inning, manager Ron Washington said after Wednesday's game against the division-rival Oakland Athletics. There's no firm update on Rengifo's status beyond that, so fantasy managers can consider him day-to-day before he's re-evaluated ahead of Thursday's meeting with Oakland. It's been a breakout season in 2024 for the 27-year-old switch-hitter, who's slashing .315/.358/.442 with six home runs, 25 RBI, 36 runs scored, and a career-high 22 stolen bases for the Halos over 269 trips to the plate. If Rengifo needs to go on the injured list for the second time this year, look for veterans Miguel Sano and Luis Guillorme to form a platoon for ABs at the hot corner.
Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and stole his 21st base of the season in Saturday's 6-5 win over the Tigers. It was Rengifo's fourth consecutive multi-hit game and fifth in his last six. The switch-hitter now owns a .317-6-24-36-21 line with a .355 wOBA and 129 wRC+ on the year, and with his positional versatility, he has become a very useful fantasy asset. The 27-year-old is eligible at 2B, 3B, SS, and OF in Yahoo leagues, allowing managers to plug lineup holes with productivity.
Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo continued to swing a hot bat on Thursday in the team's 5-0 shutout victory over the visiting Detroit Tigers. Rengifo, batting in the two-hole, went 2-for-4 with his fifth home run of the season, two RBI and a run scored. The home run for Rengifo was his first round-tripper since May 24 against the Cleveland Guardians. The 27-year-old Venezuelan switch-hitter has picked up two hits in three of his last four games and has remained hot in June, going 25-for-87 (.287) with a homer, two doubles, five RBI, eight stolen bases and nine runs scored in 23 games played. Rengifo doesn't have a lot of extra-base hit potential or power, but he's hitting .312 (72-for-231) on the season and has also contributed 20 stolen bases, making him useful in all fantasy leagues as one of the Angels' best hitters.
