Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo (hand, wrist) injured his hand/wrist on a swing in the eighth inning of Wednesday night's loss to the visiting Colorado Rockies and was pulled from the game mid at-bat in favor of outfielder Mickey Moniak. Rengifo had been on the injured list earlier this month with wrist inflammation, so it looks like an aggravation of that injury and could very well send him back to the IL. Before leaving the game, he went 0-for-3 with a strikeout. The 27-year-old did have three hits on Tuesday night, but since returning from the IL on July 23, Rengifo has gone 6-for-30 at the plate with no homers, a double, five RBI, six strikeouts and two stolen bases in seven games. Fantasy managers may want to prepare for another stint on the IL, which would open up playing time at the hot corner for Brandon Drury most likely. Anthony Rendon (back) went back on the IL on Tuesday.
The Los Angeles Angels are listening to trade offers on outfielder Taylor Ward and utility man Luis Rengifo, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. Rengifo is under team control through 2025 and Ward through 2026. Feinsand further emphasized that many front-office executives believe that the two players will be dealt by Tuesday's deadline. Ward enjoyed a nice start to the summer through May with a .268/.33/.469 line but has cooled off since June 1 with a much lower .168/.277/.292 line. However, he holds a 13.5% barrel rate and 42.9% hard-hit rate, which suggests he should be turning the corner very soon. Rengifo is on pace to set career highs in most statistics with a .304/.347/.426 slash line and an eye-catching 23 swiped bags. Both players will be very useful for a team looking to compete this fall and should provide the Angels with a solid package of prospects.
According to the New York Post's Jon Heyman, Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo (wrist) is coming off the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. Heyman goes on to add that Rengifo will be a great trade piece leading up to the July 30 trade deadline as a versatile infielder that could be of interest to the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers and many others. The Angels haven't released their lineup yet for Game 2 of their series in Seattle against the division-rival Mariners, but Rengifo should be in it against right-hander Logan Gilbert. Rengifo skipped a minor-league rehab assignment, so he'll be playing in his first game on Tuesday since early July after being sidelined with wrist inflammation. While he's not a great source of counting stats or power, the 27-year-old is hitting .315 (79-for-251) with 22 stolen bases and should be rostered in most fantasy leagues.UPDATE: Rengifo is serving as the designated hitter and is batting second for the Angels on Tuesday versus Gilbert.
Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo (wrist) said he's doing "everything" on Monday like he would before a normal game and said that he could "maybe" be activated from the 10-day injured list before Tuesday's game against the division-rival Seattle Mariners. Rengifo resumed throwing, fielding ground balls and hitting off a tee on Friday, and it sounds as though he'll be able to rejoin the Angels without going on a minor-league rehab assignment. The 27-year-old has been out since July 5 due to right-wrist inflammation. While he can't be counted on for much power or run production, he is hitting .315 (79-for-251) with 22 stolen bases as a regular in the Halos' lineup when healthy. Now that Anthony Rendon is back, most of Rengifo's playing time will come at second base when he returns. He's worth picking up off the waiver wire if he's available.
Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo (wrist) took grounders, threw and hit off a tee on Friday. Rengifo is starting to ramp up his baseball activities after initially being placed on the 10-day injured list on July 5 with right-wrist inflammation. If the 27-year-old can skip a minor-league rehab assignment, he should have a good shot at returning to the big-league lineup before the end of July. Rengifo doesn't have a ton of power for the lowly Halos, but he's hitting .315 (79-for-251) with 25 RBI, 22 stolen bases and 36 runs scored and deserves to be stashed in all fantasy formats. When healthy, the Venezuelan infielder should play regularly at the keystone for the Angels. When Rengifo returns from the IL, the struggling Brandon Drury will essentially become a utility infielder in Anaheim.
