Caden Dana Strikes Out Seven Over Seven Shutout Frames

Los Angeles Angels pitching prospect Caden Dana tossed seven shutout innings in his latest outing on Thursday against Triple-A Sacramento. In this start, Dana allowed just four hits and no walks. He struck out seven batters. Through his first three starts of the Triple-A campaign, Dana has enjoyed an impressive start, holding a 1.13 ERA with a 1.06 WHIP across 16 innings of work. He has tallied 20 punchouts and allowed just five walks. He was given a brief promotion to Los Angeles earlier in April but only made one appearance out of the bullpen. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his progression with Triple-A Salt Lake, as he should be in the mix to not only return to the majors but operate out of the starting rotation.

Caden Dana Promoted To Major Leagues

The Los Angeles Angels are promoting pitching prospect Caden Dana to the major leagues. In a corresponding move, the team is placing right-handed pitcher Ryan Johnson on the paternity list. Dana received a brief taste of the major leagues last season but struggled as he allowed 11 earned runs across 10 1/3 innings of work. However, Dana has enjoyed success in the minor leagues and could be poised to bounce back in his second stint in the big leagues. Last summer, Dana spent all of his time at Double-A before reaching the majors and held a strong 2.52 ERA with a 0.94 WHIP across 135 2/3 innings of work. He tallied 147 punchouts. This season, he made one start at Triple-A, his debut at that level, and logged four innings of one-run ball. Fantasy managers in deeper AL-only formats should consider adding Dana as an upside option, as he has performed very well in the upper levels of the minor leagues. However, Dana may only see a limited taste of the big leagues before Johnson returns.

Caden Dana Sent To Double-A

The Los Angeles Angels optioned right-handed pitching prospect Caden Dana to Double-A Rocket City on Monday and recalled left-hander Kenny Rosenberg from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move. With the Angels well out of playoff contention again in 2024, they decided to give several of their young arms some run in the big-league starting rotation late this year. Dana, the club's top prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has looked overmatched by big-league hitters in his first three starts, allowing 12 earned runs on 14 hits (five home runs) while walking seven and striking out eight in 10 1/3 innings. As a result, the Halos will send the 20-year-old back down to the farm to work on some things before potentially becoming a permanent part of the rotation in 2025. The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder is polished for his age and has drawn comparisons to Noah Syndergaard for his size on the mound.
