Anthony Rendon Lands On Injured List Yet Again

The Los Angeles Angels placed third baseman Anthony Rendon (oblique) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to Sept. 8) on Tuesday with a left-oblique strain and selected the contract of infielder Eric Wagaman from the minors in a corresponding move. Rendon had missed the last two games due to what was reported as back soreness, but the 34-year-old veteran will officially hit the IL with an oblique injury and will most likely be done for the rest of the 2024 season. Rendon has been one of the franchise's biggest free-agent busts since he joined the team in 2020 and just hasn't been able to stay healthy for a long stretch of time. He's played in just 57 games in 2024 and has hit a weak .218/.307/.267 with a career-worst .574 OPS, no home runs, 14 RBI and six steals. Rendon has fallen completely off the radar in all mixed fantasy leagues heading into next year.

Anthony Rendon Taking A Seat On Sunday

Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon is out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. The oft-injured infielder appears to be getting a routine rest day here. Rendon is having a down year at the plate, but he does have two hits in his last three games. The rebuilding Angels really have no incentive to push Rendon out there on a daily basis. In his place, Brandon Drury will cover third base and bat seventh versus right-hander Kevin Gausman. Drury has been horrible at the plate with a .155 batting average and 10 RBI in 73 games this season. Fantasy managers can look elsewhere for help on Sunday.

Anthony Rendon Returns On Monday

Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (elbow) is back at third base and is batting fifth for the Halos on Monday against the Kansas City Royals and veteran right-hander Seth Lugo at Kauffman Stadium. Rendon was hit by a pitch on Friday and missed the contests on both Saturday and Sunday, but he's back in there to start a new week. The 34-year-old veteran has hit .400 with a 1.033 OPS and two RBI in 15 career at-bats against Lugo, but that's probably not enough to sway DFS managers to put him into their lineups. The former first-rounder by the Washington Nationals in 2011 out of Rice is still searching for his first home run of the 2024 campaign and has just six RBI and five stolen bases in 153 at-bats when he's been healthy enough to play. Since returning from his latest injured-list stint on Aug. 7, Rendon has actually gone 7-for-25 (.280) with a double.
