Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll (rest) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. This appears to be a routine rest day for the young slugger against left-hander Steven Matz. The 23-year-old is off to a slow start to the season, but fantasy managers shouldn't lose hope. Possibly a rest day will help Carroll get back on track. Randal Grichuk, Jake McCarthy, and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. will cover the outfield during Tuesday's game.
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll (wrist) collided with teammate Jake McCarthy in the outfield on Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals, and Carroll was down on the ground for a moment before getting up and jogging off. Manager Torey Lovullo said Carroll fell on his left wrist but that no X-rays were done and the outfielder would be in the lineup on Monday versus the visiting Chicago Cubs. The 23-year-old finished Sunday's game going 1-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base and is now hitting .233 (14-for-60) with a homer, four RBI and five stolen bases in his first 15 games in 2024. The reigning National League Rookie of the Year hasn't hit his stride yet this year at the plate but should remain in all fantasy lineups this week after his injury scare on Sunday.
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll will get his first day off of the season on Tuesday against the visiting New York Yankees. With Carroll starting on the bench, outfielder prospect Jorge Barrosa will make his first big-league start, playing center field and batting seventh against Yankees left-hander Nestor Cortes. Jake McCarthy is in right field. The 23-year-old Carroll, who won National League Rookie of the Year honors in 2023, has gone just 3-for-17 (.176) to begin the year with three singles, two stolen bases, four runs scored and six walks in 23 plate appearances. Barrosa was recalled from Triple-A Reno when the team put Alek Thomas (hamstring) on the injured list on Monday, and he doubled in his first ever big-league plate appearance as a pinch-hitter on Monday evening.
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielderCorbin Carrollis having a subpar spring based on the standard he set for himself en route to being named the 2023 NL Rookie of the Year. Carroll is averaging .292 but lacks power numbers, accumulating just a .702 OPS without any HR and just 3 RBI in 48 PA. Fantasy managers don't appear to be worried, as Carroll currently has an ADP of 6.7 and will be a top 10 overall option in 2024. ATC projects a .278/.359/.490 slash line to go along with 23 HR, 76 RBI, and 46 SB for the 23-year-old lefty. After winning NL Rookie of the Year and finishing 5th in the NL MVP race, Carroll will look to lead a Diamondbacks team, hoping to prove their World Series run wasn't a fluke. He is a surefire top-10 pick heading into upcoming fantasy drafts.
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll made his spring debut on Saturday during a 6-2 Cactus League win over the Colorado Rockies. The reigning NL Rookie of the Year was not a factor, however, going hitless in two at-bats and drawing a walk in his third plate appearance. He was then taken out for a pinch runner. One spring training game does not a season make, however, and Carroll figures to be one of the top offensive weapons in all of real-life and fantasy baseball this season. The former first-round draft pick will look to build upon his 2023 All-Star campaign after he tallied a .285-25-76-116-54 line in 155 games. Carroll is ranked fifth overall at RotoBaller and is being taken around the same pick in 2024 fantasy drafts. At that pick, managers have to decide whether they want the HR/RBI upside of Mookie Betts or lower (yet respectable) totals in those categories from Carroll but with 40 more stolen bases than the Los Angeles Dodger second baseman.
